Racing Stripes

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking about taking the sticker stripes off my car and have them put back on, but painted on. I think having those painted then having the car waxed to look not only unique but would also be eye catching. Any suggestions on how that would look or a price estimate from people who have had that done would be awesome.

I just got a quote of $2800 to remove original stripes from my 07 SGT, paint on new stripes, clearcoat new stripes. I'm in So Cal. Shop who gave me the quote is a dealer referral by the way. Called another shop I heard good things about to get a price to replace in vinyl but the guy turned me down. Too much time for what he felt he could charge. At least he was honest with me.

I had the stripes on my front bumper, roof, trunk, and rear bumper painted on and clear coated for $1200 (also included painting an aftermarket hood with the stripes and clear coating) since the vinyl ones started rotting and getting discolored. I left the side stripes vinyl though, had no reason to change those. Came out GREAT!

Having the stripes painted on his a good idea if you intend to drive the car daily. I had my stripes painted on over a year ago and they are still perfect. The lower door stripes I left in vinyl. The process is a little time intensive. To do it right you'll have to remove both the front and rear bumper covers, the grill, your hood scoop, windshield washer nozzles, hood pin plates, rear faux gas cap, the Shelby trunk letters, the brake light in the trunk, the Sirrius radio antenna from the trunk. Then the painter will do the stripes and then usually re-clear coat the entire roof, trunk, hood, and bumper covers. The cost is usually around a $1,000 plus due to all of the above removal and re-install. The hardest part is removing the old stripes, they sometimes come off easily, and other times may come off in postage stamp size pieces. To save money, I removed my own stripes, removed all of the above items (except bumper covers) and then had the painter do his job. I then re-installed everything. Saved about $700 by doing the "grunt" work. hope this helps,

So I'm taking it that you guys suggest that I keep the sides vinyl? Are there any reason that the price could go over $3,000? I'm going to have them changed for my graduation present instead of a vacation so it's okay if it's a little on thr expensive side. But, if you guys had the choice, you'd keep the side stripes vinyl? It doesn't take away from the look of the car since the racing stripes would be clear coated and the sides stripes wouldn't?

If you have the $$$ and time I would paint the side as well. A good shop can cut a template to match perfectly.

Good luck!

I'll probably get the sides painted too just to mak everything look the same and have everything clear coated. How long did it take for the removal and painting at the shop? Do the Shelby letters get placed back on or do new new ones? Am I going to have to buy new letter because they are only one time stick or something?
