BUICK468
My Shelby GT sets in a climate controlled garage and does not get driven very often (234 miles). I would like to remove the gasoline and put some fresh fuel in it. I tried dropping a hose down into the gas tank but that doesn't work. Is there a way to pump the fuel out using the factory in tank electric fuel pump easily? Any info would be helpful. Thanks
blkGT500nCA
I had to do this once at the dyno to get some good fuel in the car. We disconnected the fuel line at the fuel rail, attached a longer hose to it, then cycled the key a bunch of times to get the fuel pump to turn on. We tried to jump the fuel pump fuse, but this didn't work, so cycling the key it was. You'd be better off dumping a can of Torco in it to get the octane up, drive it to burn off the old tank, then go fill it up w/ some Stabil in it. BUICK468
Why did you have to cycle the key? I thought if you just turned the key on the fuel pump would run....no?
blkGT500nCA
only for a few seconds. It wasn't too bad.
springer
Try making a gas tank siphon pump from a 12v electric fuel pump (any electric fuel pump for a car will do), some hose, wire and alligator clips. I use this pump on my Harleys and have used it on a few cars too. I added a fuel filter to mine and an inline fuse. Connect the wires to a spare battery placed 8 to 10 feet from the pump, or run the wires direct to your battery. Make sure you don't "dry clatter" the pump for very long or you will burn out the pump motor. The fuel pump, hoses, wires etc can be purchased at any auto parts store. The fuel pump was mounted to a board to stabilize it when operating. Do not get your battery, or create any sparks close to the fuel tank or gas can. See the attached pic below of my siphon. blkGT500nCA
I think there is a screen preventing a hose from getting into the tank through the filler hole. You could take out your back seat and remove one of the factory pumps and use that device though. Edit: I still think it would be easier to just add some Torco to the fuel that's in there. BUICK468
Torco, where do I buy it and what is it? The tank is completely full so I was wanting to pump it out and run the fuel in my lawn mower or something and just put about 6 or 7 gallons back in the car. Is fuel stabilizer o these cars as well?
