Is Electronics package worth it?

What changes from 2010 to 2011 Electronics package were made?

Is it true only a single disc now?

How big is the hard drive and is this new for 2011?

Is the audio quality any better with this package?

I really would like to know if this is worth the $2500 because I could certainly use the savings and lower monthly payment without this but really hate to spend $50k plus and say boy I wish I had it.

Just a for instance, I could live without HID's, I am performance guy but I like the entire driving experience and right now I am think the electronics package is a must but I know little about it or have used it before.

Thanks

I know I really love the package. The only thing I don't like is that you couldn't get the shaker1000 with it. I don't know if that changed for 2011 or not. Sound quality isn't any better with the electronics package, but I don't think it sounds bad unless your really into loud booming audio systems. It doesn't need any more than one Cd slot because you just down load the cd and it's in there until you delete it. (I love that part). I don't know hard drive space, but ford claims around 2,000 songs can be downloaded. Plus you can use your I pod to gain more songs. I love the nav, and bluetooth for my iphone. I usually don't buy into these kinds of things ,but now that I have it I wouldn't want to be without it. If you want to do an aftermarket audio then I would stay away from it.

the stereo that comes with the electronics package is the Shaker 500. sounds ok to me but it could definately be better. I know for the 2010 the Shelby Kicker upgrade package will not work. Makes me wonder what they're using for the 2010 SS since the kicker upgrade is an option. The package also comes with the dual climate controls which i've never used. basically just lets you have different temp/fan settings for driver and passenger.

I didn't originally want the electronics package, but when it came time to buy for me, the only place in California that had the car I wanted (2010 Gray/Silver Vert w/HIDs) had the electronics package too. I wanted the Shaker 1000 until I realized that it was just subs in the trunk and an amp to power just the subs. I bought the car with the electronics package anyway. I'm glad that I did. There are alot of features in there that most other cars don't have, that I actually like (Vehicle health reports, Traffic, Weather, Voice commands etc.) The Nav system with sync is way better than other navs that I've seen which cost alot more. The dual zone a/c actually works really well. I'm always adjusting the temp in my daily driver car that has dual zone. I haven't touched the temp in the GT500 since I bought it. I don't use the hard drive in mine b/c the only way to put music on it is to put a CD in and rip it. I use the USB port with a 16GB thumbdrive (~$30) that holds all of my mp3's and stays in the car. I don't think I'll ever use the CD drive so I wouldn't care if it was 1 CD vs 6 CD. I'm happy with the sound of the system as it is. I'm thinking lawdude is right on, if you think you might want it, get it. It's a good deal for what you get.

My 2010 has it too.

i got mine with no Nav,no shaker just HIDS.Many folks love the Nav system. For me, ill never drive the car where Ill need the GPS,sinceif i need GPS I have other cars that have it.I do luv the sync though, and that comes with all the cars.I bought a ZUNE that holds 120Gb,and its really very cool how you can use voice commands to get to a song, plalylist, skip track, nex track etc.And the Zune makes it very easy to rip a cd and put it on the Zune.Im sure other MP3s are good as well, or just a memory stick. And the standard 500W system is fine, even with my ragtop. So its a personal choice, but sounds like you feel the way I did,its not woth the money if all you want it for is the GPS

I think the question comes down to how long you plan to keep the car. Factory NAV systems become dated quickly. Sure you can get map updates but the functionality falls behind aftermarket head units and portable systems. While my NAV has come in handy a few times I probably would not get it again and save the money. For $2k you can buy one hell of a Garmin and pocket the difference.

It is worth every penny. It makes the car a lot more upscale, instead of the dated, tiny interface on non EP units. It isn't just NAV either as many have stated. I love the integrated media, climate controls, maps, weather, fuel prices, I actually use all of it. It's awesome to be on a 1,000 mile road trip and have all this information on a big 7" screen.

Its a must have for me. The Sirius travel link is great you get the weather, sports scores, closes gas stations..... The electric control temp would be nice too i hate on long trip continually changing the temp and fan speeds. I also think if you are going to spend 50k plus on a car you might as well get everything you want, and remember you can't upgrade to it in the future.

It's funny you call the none EP interface dated. The thing is that interface will age better then the EP. Ford has already changed the EP interface for 2011 to a much more modern interface. While the feature set is nice on the EP it will become dated faster. Plus it makes it much harder to move to an aftermarket setup down the road. However, if you only plan on keeping the car for five years then it might be worthwhile.

Always an option is to use an external USB harddrive like the FreeAgent Go made by Seagate, you can buy one for about $75-150 and store up to 1 Terrabyte of music data.

Quick question for you. You said the Shelby Kicker upgrade will not work in the 2010 GT500. Why is that? I know the speakers are all plug and play, but when dealing with installing the amp there might be an issue. Please let me know as I'm looking at purchasing a 2010 and already bought the speaker upgrade. Thanks.
