bad picture, but if you look closely you can see that the DEST, AUTO, SOUND, and 4 button are not lighting up. Dont really drive the car at night so I am just now noticing it. What is the fix? is there a bulb/led behind each button? Should i take to dealer? Anyone else have this issue?

I have the same issue on mine! I too didn't noticle it until recently because I don't drive my car at night very much. For me, however, only the "phone" and "4" lights are out; looks like your issue is more extensive. I've been meaning to take it to the dealership, but I've been too busy. Keep us posted in case you get to them first because I'm certain now this isn't an isolated issue.

Kind Regards

My car is being stored in a friends garage 30 minutes away from me. Next time I'm over there to run it I'm going to check this out. I'll make sure I have it updated to the latest version of Sync. I don't think the Sync system has anything to do with the lights though.

since you 2 guys have different issues not related to sync,id bring it in.But just in case,id get the latest sync update and see if it helps before givng thedealer a chance to scrtach your car

my sync is the latest, 3.1. i really dont see how this can be controlled by sync either. i dont plan to take it in for this until i get more info about it or see if any others are seeing the problem.

No, I doubt VERY much that it's a software problem.

I've never had mine out but they are typically LAMPS that backlight switches.

They may be LED's, but none the less...lamps.

And as such they burn out. And since they burn out, they are replacable.

If they are incandesent they should be fairly easy to replace.

On the other hand...I've seen factory LED's that are a major BITCH to replace. Sometimes to the effect of a complete printed circuit board. If that's the case, have the dealer warranty it. If it's on your dime, it might be a lot cheaper to find a EE that can solder new LED's in place.

But my bet is, "lamps" with twist sockets, from behind.

Anyone have a Service Manual? It'll tell ya.

Phill

anyone know how to remove the trim bezel around that nav and the radio / ac controls?

You need to remove the Front Controls Interface Module. All of the buttons and controls are housed in this box which is mounted right behind the trim bezel (Instrument finish panel in the manual)

2010 Manual says:

NOTE: The floor console upper trim panel does not need to be removed.

Pry the floor console upper trim panel upward, then backward to disengage the clips. (Manual has a picture that shows a gap between where the sync logo is, and the trim bezel which exposes 2 screws that hold on the trim bezel at the bottom)

Remove the 2 screws from the bottom of the center Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) finish panel.

Pry center of the instrument finish panel out.

Disconnect the Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM) electrical connector.

Remove the 15 screws and the FCIM (From the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) finish panel) .

Install is reverse of removal.

dude thanks so much....where can i get a manual..i dont see them online anywhere.

does it talk about replacing bulbs/lights at all?

No prob. I got lucky and scored the manual on Ebay. I searched a few times, but nothing ever came up. Then I found it one day and bagged it up. It's the Ford Manual for 2010 Mustang. Covers all of them including the GT500. Says workshop manual on the front. 2 big volumes. Unfortunately it doesn't show or speak of the innards of that FCIM. If you are able to take it apart, take some pics. Otherwise you might have to replace the whole thing. Don't really know.

Here, try this:

S197 online manuals. Not sure how in-depth they go but give it a shot.

Can't hurt!

Man id be careful here.If you start pulling apart the display and cant get it back together, and THEN bring it to dealer they may tell you its not warranteed since a non-Ford person (you) was working on it,and they dont know what damage you might have caused--then youre really screwed.I had to replace a display on my Caddy EXT (out of warranty) and it was $2500!!Bring it in to the dealer

Still, if they see the slightest pry mark they may try to void the warranty. Times are tough right now for everyone, including the dealers.

They can't void a warranty because you removed the *bezel* and they'd be foolish if they tried. ONE call to a factory rep and their decision would be overturned in about 3 seconds.

And you are right, times are tough...tough enough that a dealer will take warranty work over no work at all, and that's the option they'd be faced with.

Warranty pay is typically about 75% of customer pay and every dealership I know would be more than willing to take 75% over 0%.

i got it all apart and the buttons are a sealed device that looks to be an all or none replacement. i have pics of everything if anyone wants me to post them. i guess i will make an appointmnet with the dealer.

That means they are probably LED's.

See my previous post Re: LED replacement. Since they are a diode, they are typically soldered onto a PC board and unless you have a electronics background (and can pin-point solder joints) I recommend you do just what you say, take it to the dealer.

They MOST LIKELY will have to replace the complete PC board because they won't have a tech that can repair it.

I'd like to see a photo of what you found and when all is said and done, I'd like to hear what became of your situation when you take it in.

Thanks for posting the pics. Doesn't look very hard to get at. Guess the fact that it's sealed explains why the internals of that module were not detailed in the manual. Keep us up to date on how this gets resolved. Good luck on getting a manual. I'd love to get a digital version, make it easier to handle in the garage with just a prinout of whatever you need. In the meantime, feel free to hit me up if there is anything else you need to see in the manual.
