Hood types for Shelby GT

Recommended Posts

Anyone know of a good quality and great looking hood that will allow the use of a strut bar installed over a whipple S/C?

I have a couple of strut bars and will modify these so that I can install the over the whipple. This is not to hard and when finished will be better looking and much lighter than what was one the car when new.

My main concern is finding a great looking hood that will allow the room needed for the new strut bar combo. I think I heard that ford may have a strut bar that will fit over the whipple however I understand it will not fit undser the stock hood.

Anyone with information or suggestions on this topic?

i know there are threads on this subject but I could not find anything specific to what I'm trying to accomplish. Of course I could have overlooked this as well.

Thanks,

-Billy

Billy, consider also lowering the engine with different engine mounts. Tasca has done this to several cars and I will have them do it to mine in a couple months. Paul, did they do that to yours?

no, the Techco has a lower profile then the Whipple, just had to use the Bullit strut brace. Adam, check with Dennis you may not need to lower

your engine.

I have not considered lowering the engine. I guess that could be an option if it allows for the strut bar to fit with existing stock hood.

My only concern with lowering the engine is the offsets that will be created via transmission etc and if that will stress those areas if they are not lowered at the same time. Not sure about this but will checkout if I go that route.

Thanks,

-Billy

Super jealous : ) Looks awsome

Thanks for the complement Mike.....I think it turned out great also. As far as having room under it for a strut tower brace, there seems to be a couple of inches above my existing FRP tower brace. I can see into the engine bay from the drivers seat and there is plenty of clearance.

  • 3 weeks later...

Your Deep Draw Hood looks outstanding. Was it a pain preping, stock fit, painting and stripes painted on?

Thanks - Doc

The paint and prep was not too bad. Took the body shop 2 weeks. We let the paint cure for about a month before I had the hood stripes applied. (origional material from SA). It was a hassle to get the stripes from Shelby and took way too long to finally get. I think it was almost 3 months to get the stripes from Shelby. I am very happy with the final results. Thanks for all of the complements. Now if onlt the weather would cooperate so that I can get her out and take some new photos.

It looks awesome! But you explain what you mean by " can see into the engine bay from the drivers seat"?

Thanks!

Here is my Terlingua "deep draw hood"

That is one beautiful hood. I'm getting ready to have mine done around the end of May. I'm going to have the stripes painted on the hood as well as the car.

Would you happen to have better pictures? I'd like to use your hood as an example of how I want my body shop to do it.

Thanks in advance

Jessie

At the back edge of the hood there are two open vents that extract heat from the engine bay over the wiper blades and across the windshield. When sitting inside the car I can see into the engine bay. It is a neat perspective.

It looks as if there will be some decent weather this weekend. I plan on taking my "girl"out for some updated glamor shots. I will post some new pics next week.

I just prefer the SGT with the faux hoodscoop's as that says its a 'Shelby GT'

What would be ideal is for SAI to make a hood with the scoop molded to it and functional. These would be hot :lurk: sellers to many Mustang owners just not Shelby owners.

I agree with you about the shelby hood with the scoop fabricated into the hood, same as the old 350's. That is exactly what I would like to find. The 67 hood someone mentioned looks nice too but a copy of the orignal would be perfect.

I had a SVO style hood painted and installed on my 1993 cobra and that was the best lookin hood I have seen since the orignal shelby hoods on the gt350s. The new gt 350 hood looks like crap IMO
