2010 GT500 Order Process

After reading about some the difficulties some of you are experiencing, I guess I'm lucky.

I ordered my GT500 on Nov. 9; a VIN was assigned on Nov. 23 and the scheduled build date (Dec. 12) was established a day or so later.

The delivery date is on or about Dec. 29.

One advantage was that this dealer had 5 allocations for 2010 and my order was the third. I was also lucky in the timing of the order.

I talked with the Ford Midwest Communications Manager about how GT500s and Mustangs share the same plant. He said that GT500s are run in batches.

They shutdown the Mustang line switch to the GT500 and build all that they have orders for. What I don't know is how often GT500 batch jobs are run. That is ... How many GT500 orders do they need to justify stopping production on the Mustangs.

By the way...

Congrats on ordering your new Shelby :happy feet: Your gonna love it!!

Unless Ford's Flatrock plant has changed the way they operate, this isn't true. We(Team Shelby)had the chance to tour the Mustang/Mazda 6 assembly line back in 08 and they never shut down the line. We watched as Mustang V6's, GT's, Shelby's and Mazda 6's followed each other on the assembly line. They were in no particular order (was kind of fun trying to guess what model each Mustang was going to be as they passed by). The order of the cars was totally at random.

I have no idea why the Ford Communication Manager gave the reply he did. Your responses sound more convincing.

At any rate, I'll show pictures and list the mods when the car is ready.

Probably around the middle of January. I'm having significant HP added immediately.

Can the general public tour the Flatrock assembly plant? I remember when I was a kid I got to tour the Mustang assembly plant but I assume they've stopped this...

I don't think so, The tour was a Team Shelby organized event. TS didn't have a tour in 09, maybe they will do one in 2010.
