EXCERPT:

Currently, Ford is firing thousands of workers, slashing expenses and cutting back on low volume product lines in an effort to restore profitability. Extreme times call for extreme measures. It wouldn't surprize me if (after only one model year) they cut the Shelby program altogether. They have cut other SVT and low volume vehicles in the past.

Who knows if the guy is right ? He wants to sell his only allotment and make 15K ADM. He is up front and has been in business 78 years, so I quess that's worth something. Ford is going to be cutting more jobs in March. :lurk:

It seems to me that if you're selling cars and you're stuck with a bunch of them because you paid way too much for them, making the market dry up would cause a little panic buying. Poof, the ADM's go back up and you sell your stock. Very creative. Something to think about :banghead:

My thoughts exactly, I have been contacted recently 6 times by a dealer that said they were only getting 4 cars I did some follow up on their pricing they were at 20K over sticker they had 3 cars available. I also asked about how many they had sold so far I was told 8-10 cars, the salesman came across like he was full of poo on that but it could be true it is a big market dealer.

As for Ford cutting production they could it would be a huge mistake look at the Bold Moves video out now its got Foose making mustangs and Funk Master Flex making a bling styled SUV both niche vehicles for Ford. Ford is looking to make a vehicle you want to buy they are searching for another hit like with the GT500. Ford also is trying to make a statement and bolster its image with the Manracer they put a alot of Carbon fiber and a Yates-Roush mill in it to make it a viable racer for a privateer to be able to go out racing with. Cutting production will keep money in the till but having popular vehicles puts it there to start with.

I am sure that Ford wants another top selling all around car for the masses like they had with the Toarus (Not sure how to spell it, Acorn please whack me) . The masses can not afford a $50,000 dollar car. Ford needs another mid priced car that would do this. The Mustang base car is a great seller, but not a hit with all the fuddy dutties. :hysterical:

How 'bout a retro Falcon? Ford produced the contour or some other vehicle that was deemed the falcon replacement, but it was a long ways from it as far as styling is concerned.

That's exactly the marketing strategy with the GT-500. It is a "Bold Moves" draw vehicle. It will bring customers into the dealersips to look at the entire Ford model line. The GT-500 wasn't meant to be a production model. It's what they call in the business an "image vehicle".

I was just informed the other day by a friend that asked Amy in a phone conversation about the GT500's. And he told me that Amy replied "Carrol Shelby has a three year contract with Ford on the GT500's"

So that means a 2007, 2008, and 2009 GT500's will be built. Didn't say how many.

And I am guessing that dealers that still have GT500 allocations that hasn't been filled from them sitting on them will eventually turn into 2008 models by mid-year. My dealer still has 2 of 7 allocations left which will be a total of 9 Shelby's being sold out of their two stores. Mine and another gentlemen Shelby came by way of a store closure which mine was at MSRP and the other at $3000 over. My dealer is selling their GT500's at $15k-$25k over, and has sat on them this long due to selling them on eBay, not ordering another one until the one before is sold.

Most dealers already have orders in for a 2008 GT500.

And I am sure Ford knows that the GT500's will sell unlike any other Ford model outside of a Mustang and large trucks, so I can see these two lines being uneffected.

If I heard the first statement...I'd assume Carroll has "rights of first refusal" so to speak. Without seeing said contract, it may state that the 2008 and 2009 years will be built CONTINGENT upon some hurdles...such as production rates or profitability or some other measure.

Without seeing the actual contract, I don't think there's any way to know. In addition, contracts can be broken (and are all the time). Jon Gruden had a long-term contract with the Raiders back in the early 2000s....but that contract was broken when he asked to go to Tampa Bay, and the Raiders got several things in exchange...both sides agreed to nullify (not sure if that's the correct term) the contract.

This may be a dumb question... but i was always told there is no such thing !!!!

Lets say a dealer is allocated 5 GT500s, they have Sold 2 of them. The other three they are waiting for someone to plunk down 20K before they will even order the car. Let's say nobody places an order. What happens to those 3 cars? Do they Never get built, do they pass those 3 allotments on to other dealerships ? By the dealerships ordering GT500's this way, aren't they un-intentionally reducing the number of 2007 GT500's that will ultimatelly be built if nobody ever places orders with them? :finger::headscratch::headscratch:

And I wonder how many dealerships are ordering cars this way? I know personally of 2 in the Dallas area.

And if that is the case, lets say at min 100 dealerships hold GT500's Hostage like this , then that would be 300 2007's that never get ordered or built.:cry:

Yep I totally agree with that, But if for example if what LSR and Big Slick have posted is either happening or is allowed to happen it really negates any attempt to have a image vehicle make a impact.

Guaranteed, there isn't a person on this board that knows. However it will be interesting to see how things play out. Many things are changing rapidly at Ford.

OK, as one who got hosed on the GT 500 from a supposedly reputible dealer, I dont trust any dealer anymore and never will. It used to be a running joke about used car dealers. Now they are all in the same boat. Hes just feeding a ine of BS to raise the price, again

The Barrett Jackson auction with the first 2007 Shelby selling for $600K replayed today on speed. I'm curious to know if this will impact the growing momentum this car has.

I have that episode on my Tivo still. Still makes me cringe knowing what it does to dealers' mindsets.
