...well after only a couple of hours sleep last night, I drove up to the ford dealer in Gower, MO and met the owner. He and I drove in his truck into the metro area (about a 45 minute drive) to the mixing station/railyard area. I can't say enough nice about the dealer, Dennis Sneed, small dealership in Gower, MO. Made the whole process enjoyable, and while I paid adm, he didn't rip me off, he kept his word on every part of the process, and he could sure have made a lot more money if he wanted by selling the shelby out of state. Anyway, around noon (after waiting almost an hour) a mixing station employee drives up in the shelby and off I go. Stop in Liberty to fill up with 92 octane, and then up to Gower for wash and pdi. Every part of this went great, dealership is really the best I have ever dealt with, and I have dealt with a bunch. Service manager was so good, that instead of going back later to pick up my old toyota van, I had him take it in to try and fix some problems that are starting to make it unsafe to drive.

Perceptions; well no different from everyone else who has posted. I really did not have any issues with the clutch, but did experience some wheel hop when I hit 3rd gear leaving the dealer. I suspect the tires were still wet from either the wash water, or from the stuff used to make the sidewalls glossy. Anyway, the best thing about the shelby is also its weakest link. The shelby is smooth and comfortable, you are over 100 without thinking it is close. Handling and ride are great also. Just a true pleasure to drive. You can almost forget you are driving a sports car with over 500 hp. What I am also saying is that this car is very detuned in many aspects to achieve this comfort. Suspension has a lot of potential left in it, same way with the engine. The problem is, you risk losing the comfort and smoothness when you reach for its potential. Boy, what a choice. the shelby as is is just so easy to drive, that it almost seems a shame to change it at all. Well plenty of time later for these decisions. Here are some photos of the car at the railyard/mixing station, and at the dealer. And no, I am not in any of the photos :hysterical: No sense ruining this post

John,

I really enjoyed looking at your first pictures of your new baby. Wow, she sure looks awesome. I just love the looks of the Mustang and the Shelby front grin, and hood line really grabs my eyes. The Cobra emblems are such a nice touch. Enjoy your car.

John, your wait is officially over today 12/22/06.

Dave, Take this man off the list please.

Very nice KCMO! Glad all went well. That is the color combo I would have ordered...but I loved the two tone interior so much that I went with Alloy. I really wish they would have offered some two tone option on that color...then I surely would have gone White/blue.

Give us a recap in a couple weeks after you've had some experience with it. Drive on.

Thanks for keeping me honest...I didn't remove him, but I did add a delivery date. I won't repost the s/s for a few days....don't want to make it too frequent.

Well I think this outdoes my cookie. :hysterical::hysterical2:

Funny, I was thinking the same thing when I saw that cake.

If you have a GT500 and the cake, I guess you can eat it too.

I thought you could not have your cake and eat it too.

I was wrong. :baby:

Hey, John, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

What a great christmas (or other holiday of your choice <lol>) present!!

She looks great!!!

Only comment on your dilemma to mod or not is that svtbird's kicked-up baby idles just as smooth and runs just as docile as an '01 NA Cobra (maybe even a little quieter!), until you get on it, then it's an animal. Also, the suspension mods he put on are really just heaver-duty replacements parts (UCA, LCAs...) and the torque box braces to stiffen the chassis and none of them add any harshness whatsoever -- a good strategy, I think. Even at around 600rwhp it puts it to the ground really well. Of course if you go coil-overs and lower and stiffer, etc that would definately be something you could feel and changer her character, etc.

I was so impressed with this car -- and I'm so happy for ya -- you've waited a long time and it's been great talking... I'm sure we'll hear more as you <ahem> break her in. ;)

Best of luck for a trouble-free sled....

-Dan

Thanks again to all for your very kind thoughts; and Dan, yes, you make very good points, and right now it is not going to take very much to send me in that direction. Only had the car for a couple of days now and have around 250 miles; have already taken it to fast food joint with older son, Christmas shopping with wife, and grocery shopping at WalMart at the next town over (excelsior springs). Since I want to use this as a pretty routine driver, I am forcing myself to get used to exposing it to all these situations. A little nerve racking at first, but am starting to get over it. Have taken both sons out for "rides", with the older boy (21) getting a ride that was slightly out of control sideways, and the younger son (17) getting a ride pretty much the same acceleration wise, but much more in control. This car is a handful, but with a little more time and practice, I think I will get it figured out. The trick is really easing into the throttle in first gear, and most of second.

Fit and finish continues to be perfect. No issues at all with the stripes, and just nothing else at all as far as leaks, noises, etc. Had two interesting encounters with mustangs today; yellow vert terminator wanted to race on a busy road while I was out Christmas shopping with my wife-of course she was less than pleased, and then I got a very friendly thumbs up from a guy in a nice looking newer Mach 1 while on my way to grocery shop. I much preferred the friendly approach :hysterical:

Great photos John. I am glad that "dam rail car made it". Since the car is going to be your daily driver, I was curious about the wall mart and shopping centers that you are going to. Are you parking out in Tim Buck Two so the in and out traffic stays away from door dinging that beautiful car.

Keep her safe from the idiots.

Maybe I can find some stick on magnetic side and door guards :hysterical2::hysterical2:

John,

Maybe you can get 4 of those orange construction candle sticks and keep them in your trunk. When you park, get out and place them around your car and then string Red danger ribbon tape around them. Of course you would need to take up 2 parking stalls too.

That will keep them away.

..will keep away the car doors, and attract the crazies with the car keys :banghead::banghead:

there is no way around it, public parking in a shelby is going to be a leap of faith

Except for the people who think that makes you look like a stuck-up anal-retentive butt monkey...then they will step over the tape and key your car just to pi** you off. I've seen it happen....when a guy took up two parking spots once...parked with his car CENTERED ON THE WHITE LINE, and two guys walked by after getting out of their 20 year old Buick Skylark, and proceeded to key the guy's '68 Mustang while saying "this guy thinks he's hot sh*& with this car...we'll show him".

They didn't know I saw them. I called the cops, took the plate number, and waited for the cops. Told them what happened, showed them the car, and then I left. They said they'd take care of it from there.

P.S. Their Skylark did not have a locking gas cap. :spiteful: (just kidding)
