moabman
It had "slowed" way down to 14,000 mph by the time it flew over!
RUFDRAFT
Oh, Daddy. And - they only have one shot at landing, no? If they don't get it right, they can't "go around," can they? Exciting.
moabman
I didn't see it because it was too high and it was too light to see the ionization trail. I was watching the TV and they said that it would be passing over Houston on it's way to Florida. We got to see one go over at night a few years ago and it was fascinating. The one at night left a reddish orange trail all the way across the sky and we heard the boom about a minute later. I knew that even if we couldn't see it in the daylight, we could still hear the boom. It was about 200,000' high acording to NASA TV and hauling buns. Big boom but we couldn't see it. Still exciting though.
RUFDRAFT
That's quite enough 600 hp Boy! Don't make fun of my ride. What I lack in Hp I make up in Style, Daddy! When the Rufstang approaches, you KNOW who's driving! The sonic boom is from the Shuttle going faster than sound - when sound catches up - Boom! And please remember - Ruf's having a less than merry holiday this year. He may get a bit - testy! He's trying his best to keep it together. My closest family (other than mom - who's 88 and in stage 7 of Alzheimer's) is a sister in MN. Y'all are providing some great backup, you hear? :happy feet:
moabman
Yeah Ruf. You notice how Shelby copied your front end? :hyper:
RUFDRAFT
"...a few hp...." Bill - you've got 200 more hp than I do! I'm not putting my ride down - I'm just being realistic. I said what it is - and it's not a 600 hp GT! There's nothing wrong with that. Someone always has more hp than you do. Trust me! If I really thought I had to have more hp - I'd have it brother! What I have is all I need. Hell - even a stock 300 hp GT (or a V6) is enough to have fun with. I'm not going to try and compete with everyone on these boards. Turn your boost down to 400 at the crank and we'll line up! Moab - truthfully - I copied the grille from the Shelby GT-H! Cervini makes them for Shelby. :happy feet: But - I've not seen my Stripe - anywhere! :hyper:

RUFDRAFT
And we love your acorns. I'm feeling chatty! These h.p. "wars" interest me. I've had 4 other Mustangs - most with about 200-305 hp - all V8's. I never drag raced them. I also never felt h.p. challenged. I've also had 2 miatas and a Nissan 350Z. Again - plenty of fun factor and no h.p. envy. When I read about some of our members with Shelby's so eager to reach the outer limits of h.p., it makes me wonder. What's enough? At what point will they be happy? 700? 800? 900? I'm very happy with my current numbers. I almost feel a sense of relief that I'm not buying into the Most Horsepower Syndrome. (MHS!) Of course, I'm not going to drive anyone's 700 hp Shelby anytime soon....I'd hate to fall off the wagon!

It's like that old Lay's Potato Chip commerical, "Bet you can't eat just one". I subscribe to theory that you can never have enough horsepower, but I am also thrifty, which keeps the MHS in check. carnut
I don't mind having more HP as long as the car is still reliable and not going to blow up making a run. The age old trick is to know where that point is
