hotrodrock
I've entered 3 car shows in the last 6 weeks. Having been a gearhead since I was 14 and having built a couple of my own race cars, I can recognize nice cars when I see them. At these shows I have seen some very nice rods and 60 -70 year old cars that have more time, effort, and money in them than I will ever have in my GT500. I have seen some nicely restored muscle cars that are worth twice what my car is. But, I have become certain of one thing. None of these cars will ever get more attention than a GT500. People just eat these cars up. Whether the car is stone stock or slightly modified like mine, people just are mesmerized by them from little kids to old geezers. It has got to irratate some guys who come by with their families and their wives just ooooh and aaaah over it. Its also really rewarding to have other gearheads stop and want to talk about the car because they know it is one bad machine. By the way, I have a laser cut license plate bracket that has "Johnny Mac's" on the top and "One Bad Snake" on the bottom. We all know its not a car for the faint of heart and not a car that you get if you want to keep a low profile. Overall, I kind of like it.

Burning Blue Star IV
Yep, it's been my experience too...these cars turn heads and attract attention like no other! It's really incredible. Ford did hit a home run with the Shelbys.

thewheelman
Nothing like it, even with a newer model on the road! A little boy walked by mine the other day....he must have been 7-8, maybe, holding his dad's hand he jerked and pointed to my car and said, "Oooo, Cobra!" gth0007
:happy feet: I totally agree that car shows are changing. Even the larger Mustang/Ford shows are now dominated by the newer cars, Shelbys, GTs, and modified Mustangs. The older 60's and 70's cars are still interesting but let's face it, they are slow and poor handling compared to the new Shelbys. Even the SGTs are faster in the quarter mile than most of the super muscle cars of the late 60's, early 70's. The new Mustangs can be financed, driven daily, are comfortable, reliable, and fast as hell. Plus, those of us that remember the fabulous 60's are getting older so driving a new car with working A/C, CD player, no mechanical headaches, are attracted to the new cars. I'll keep my older cars for fun, but when it comes to driving, the Shelby gets let out of the barn first.

I show a 65 Mustang GT at antique shows and the 07 GT500 at street meets and shows that are mostly late model. The GT500 does get alot more attention. The 65 is mostly discussed by others doing antique restorations. The one difference is that the local folks know my 65 is one that gets DRIVEN alot. It runs and drives well, AC blows cold and I use it, especially in 105deg Houston heat. Still, the latest mod on the GT500 if of much more interest to most at car shows. NICK82
Best had to be when I drove it to New Orleans last Spring. I stayed at a nice hotel in the French Quarter and handed the keys to an old black butler named Calvin. When Calvin finished parking it around the corner he comes back to me and says "If they had that car during the prohibition days, them folks would of never got caught."
