Resonator Eliminator - where 2 buy?

:headscratch: Anyone know where/if I can order this part online? M-9B659-MSVT. It's the ford racing SVT Resonator Eliminator Kit. When I google the part number the only sites that come up are Ford Racing, and you can't buy direct from them. I guess I could go through my dealer but it's easier online.

I know you can pull the resonator out of the stock unit for free but i'd like to keep that stock unit. I like the option to put the car back to stock if I ever want to.

Yep, thanks. I was just looking at those pics a few minutes ago. Has anyone seen the ford part yet, up close? I'd like to know how it differs from the modified piece. My concern, and I know I'm anal, is that removing the muffler might "dirty up" the airflow. I don't mean let dirty air in, I mean that it might change the velocity or angle of the flow. I don't have to tell you guys that it's not only the amount of air that flows into the intake but also HOW the air flows. I would think Ford would design the replacement with optimal airflow in mind but.... Anyway, anyone have any thoughts on the airflow thing? :headscratch:

I've been following this thread for a while. If the main idea is to remove the muffler to get a louder S/C whine and replace it (basically) with a same size tube with no holes, I just 'may' have come up with a cunning - and inexpensive - plan. However, I will wait a day to see if anyone can find fault with my thoughts here.

OK, if you remove the muffler and cut two pieces of:

Amerimax Home Products 10 In. x 10 Ft. Mill Finish Aluminum Flashing (.0092 Model # 68310 Store SKU # 566802 $6.60 at Home Depot) - a wide piece to wrap around the outside of the large front section of the muffler and a smaller one for the rear section to seal off the holes. Then buy 3 large hose/screw-type clamps to secure the pieces (two for the larger section and one for the small) the muffler is changed back to a tube and slides right back into its former housing. The flashing covers the muffler holes, the clamps are trapped within the housing and cannot go anywhere - even if they would ever loosen up.

For about ten bucks the whine should be back and nothing on our car is irreversibly changed from stock.

I have not removed the muffler yet and have only seen tdusseau's write-up and pics to come up with this idea. If anyone can find fault with this, please let me know!

If no one can forsee a problem with this, I will try it tomorrow and report back.

Also, can anyone who has their muffler out tell me the diameter of the muffler so I can get the correct size screw clamps.

Thanks

Mark

  • 1 month later...
Anyone get the part yet, and if so...............any difference in sound???

Yep. Bought the part from Ford and replaced the original. Honestly...very little difference in sound. The whine is just slightly more noticable. I believe it has more to do with the way Ford sealed the car from exterior noise than the resonator. Guess I need to chop a hole in the firewall!! :hysterical: Joking of course.

If there's no reduction in sound I'm wondering why Ford put it there in the first place. I'm a little dissapointed too but after seeing the inside of that thing and how much of a restriction it is I'm getting it just for the better flow. If it sounds better so be it.

I put the JLT Carbon Fiber Tube on my 10 and the whine is more noticable than before but still not loud at all. I like the way it sounds without being intrusive. Looks a lot better too and a strut tower brace will fit now. I don't know if that is worthwhile. Anyone know the benefits of that?

hmmm, really, not much of a difference in sound. That's disappointing. What about the people with '10's that swapped for the aftermarket intake tube vs the stock without the sound dampner? Do you guys have a noticable difference?

Definitely noticeable sound difference. And of course the longer you keep your foot in it, the louder it whines... :yup:

And I also like the fact that I was able to install the strut tower brace. The JLT Carbon fiber tube dresses up the engine compartment quite nicely without being obnoxious.

I see you exchanged the stock filter for the FRPP. Reason? (I have 2 sitting around).

Ford claimed the brace was no longer needed because they beefed up the constructiion of the front with larger gauge steel. I believe it is the same on the GT, but they give you a brace on that model when you buy the track package. So it probably wouldn't hurt.

The original filter was just filthy after 5000 miles, and I wanted to replace it with the better flowing FRPP filter... AND, its blue, so looks nicer.

The stock paper filter is just plain crappy, even with vacuum and compressor couldnt get it clean.

I was able to buy that FRPP filter from Blue Oval for $49.95, I think thats cheaper than the dealer wanted for the replacement paper filter!

The stock filters are use and throw away like any other paper filter. I don't know what they cost, but if they're not too pricy that's probably what I'll do.
