JBG66
Hi, I am new to the forum but have been reading topic threads for awhile. So, I could really use some advice. Here goes: I want to buy a red GT500 (not 2010). I have found an '08 for $39,500 and and '07 for $38,500, both used. The '07 is bone stock with only 800 miles on it. The '08 has 5500 miles on it with some modifications that the salesman said "cost $3000." Borla catback exhaust, Ford racing cold air intake, a Ford racing scan tool thingy with chip to reflash? (not sure how this works but I guess I'll figure it out), GT500 center caps on the wheels, GT500 door sill plates, a 3 gauge pod on top of the dash, Carroll Shelby signature on the dash, snake stitched upholstery on the head rests and console. I do like most of these mods. The '08 is a trade in for a KR. '07 is a private party sale. What do you think? Are these prices in line with other cars? What differences were there from '07 to '08 to '09? I know that the '08 has side airbags in the seats. I don't think the '07 does. Fake brake scoops on the quarterpanels? The mileage is much lower on the '07 but the '08 will have longer on the warranty. Will the mods affect the warranty? Appreciate any advice. Thanks, John
Leonard 95
Just up to you really, both really fall under the tranny tsb, so the 08 maybe the better choice since it will have more warranty left. Those mods on the 08 won't really affect warranty especially since they are ford parts, so your good there.
6-Speed
There's not really a lot of difference between an 07 and 08. Here's what I recall. 1. 08 offered HID head lights 2. The harmonic balancer on an 08 is substantially lighter (required for TVS and larger superchargers) than the one on the 07 3. 08 offered interior mood lighting option 4. 08 has felt-lined inner window belt (weather-strips) to prevent scratching window tint If I think of anything else, I'll add to the list. The flywheel in the 07 and 08 and 09 models (built prior to Sept 1, 2008) are susceptible to warping; Ford has issued a TSB for this.
OCD
The 08 with some mods seems to be the better deal...
BoneDoc
I would go with the '07. sounds like the '08 was modded and therefore was probably driven pretty aggressivley. There is a good chance that at least some of those miles are dragstrip miles. always better to start with a clean slate in my opinion. from there you can make the car your own. I must admit Bias.... bought my '07 in October 2006! Ron
shelbymotorsports
Unless the mods on the 08 are exactly the ones you want and would add yourself I would go for the low mile 07 and mod it the way you want. You also have first year "bragging rights" with the 07. Steve
diamondback
Those are great mods and mostly nessasary(stock exaust too quiet) and also expensive ones($800 just for the Corsa's). I would go with the

I would go with the 08 08. One more year of warranty, plus has mods you would likely install anyways. Just ask for the stock parts before you bring it home. svttim
Your choice, both great cars. If you think you would go the mod route, I would consider the 08. If you wouldnt, then the 07 is still a good deal. I am moding my 08 and I doubt it will see any drag time but, we didnt buy these cars to putz around. Cobrabitn
Forget both of them and get an 09 as I am sure there are still some available, the TSB has been fixed on most of these cars and you can still get a full warranty. I bought mine for 42K but I have seen them for 40K brand new on this board. For the extra warranty, peace of mind, and history, I recommend an 09. But if you have to choose, probably the 07 since it hasn't been modded. Mods scare me as you don't know what the person has done with it especially as far as a tune goes. A garage queen is a better deal, you can talk that price down as some of these cars are going in the mid to low 30's, and the owner probably hasn't modded it. See if the 07 owner has an extended warranty on the car. like 5 or 7 years and 60K miles and make sure it is transferable. Good luck with your choice, either way you'll be happy! :happy feet:

My 07 has not seen a track and has literally been babied. For me modding was also an ego thing. We're all different. I'm 55...if I were 20 maybe different story. Slabo
Both sound good. That '07 has low miles and is untouched. Something to consider. Was it garaged?

JBG66
Both sound good. That '07 has low miles and is untouched. Something to consider. Was it garaged? Yes it was-is garaged. I drove it Sunday. Beautiful car, looks and feels brand new. The 08 was sold so with that one gone I am very seriously looking at new 09's as suggested by Cobrabitn and Jody. I'll keep you all posted. I may be driving one home Saturday! :happy feet:
