Rear brake noise - INITIAL braking + power-steering noise

Hello again!

The past couple of months I noticed a noise (sounds like a squeaky spring being compressed) when driving and when I press the brake pedal. I only hear it in the Left-rear brake, and it doesn't continue after the pedal is held down...only the initial sound - no continuous sound as you would get if sand was present between the pad and the rotor.

I will have the dealership check it out when I have to get the car inspected again, but I'm not going to just take it down for this. Any clue what may be causing this noise?

Also, on the power steering area, I hear a little straining sound (from the power steering?) when just going in a slow circle. It's hard to put into words the sound (a slow ufo sound perhaps?)...I don't have the wheel turned all the way to the left to purposely put strain on the system, but I would like to know if this is normal. :headscratch:

Thanks.

Sounds to me like your power steering pump may be cavitating. Have you checked the level in your power steering fluid reservoir? If it's low, add to the max then start the car. Crank the wheel hard right, hard left, hard right, etc till the noise disappears. That will work any air out of the system and help to prevent the pump from failing. If your fluid level is OK, I'd still have Ford check it out. Good luck

Thanks man...I will check the level in the morning!

Any thoughts on the brake noise? It doesn't sound like a major issue, but it shouldn't be making that noise.

I'd say it's a caliper piston getting hung up on engagement, but that's just a guess.

Brakes are one of those things that you really gotta hear to be sure. Regardless, you're right on, they shouldn't be making any noise at all.

Definitely another issue worthy of a warranty appointment.
