KR Wheel Repair

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had a KR wheel successfully repaired? I have talked to Alcoa and a couple

wheel places and they all say that they can't be repaired. I have a couple dings that

went through the finish. I was told that I shouldn't have them welded on. I was also

told that nobody can match the durabright finish that is on them.

Yes, They can be repaired depending on how bad the damage. Is there a reason you did not turn it into insurance? New ones are around 1700.00 but you would have to send old one back before they would send you a new one. Can you post a picture?

Pretty sure all it is is a polished wheel with a clearcoat on it.

I did see a video of one being repaired and will see if I can find it.

I was told that they have a DuraBright finish from Alcoa. Suposedly it is an anodized coating with a special top coat. If it is just polished and clear coated, I'm a happy camper. If it's DuraBright, nobody wants to touch it.

The wheels are not supposed to be repaired. The finish has a patent. So no real way to get them to look all the same. Take off the coating (which is very thin) then polish them along with clear. Or you could go the chrome route.

Because of the big $ forgings they should not be repaired if actual damage.

Do you need just one wheel? Saw one advertised as a take-off although did not verify.
