Signatures under car

Recommended Posts

Changed oil today. While looking under car, found name "D Maze" or "D Moze" on inside of frame rail near catalitic converter on right side of car. Looks like it was done with a sharpei.

Wonder if SAI had such persom working on car. Heard some emplyees signed early cars until they were instructed not too do this.

Harald, if you look at your pre delivery sheet that came from Hertz, you will see that he has also signed that form. I thought that he worked for Hertz, but have not spent any time reasearching. My car is signed in the same area along with another signature that I have not been able to make out.

I did email SAI with a photo of the signatures but never got a reply.

Thanks. I will ask SAI when I pick up my car if they know the name.

I asked Bud that same question about 6 months ago. He said that D. Maze was an SAI employee, not sure if he still worked there or not. Bud said that there are quite a few cars with sigs under them but then that they were told to not do that any more. So all the earlier cars probably have a sig under them. I'm still uncertain if Doug Maze was a Hertz employee or a SAI employee as that is the name on the Hertz Vehicle in Service Check Sheet that I received from Hertz. My car was checked in to Hertz on 4/12/2006 before the Shelby conversion was done and invoiced to Hertz on 5/12/2006.

Since I was lucky enough to give my car it's first oil change, my oil filter had D. MAZE written on it!

Ill bet Doug Maze is getting a kick out of this now :hysterical:

Oil filter, thats different. I think I will sign mine under the car along the rail with name and date of purchase as the first private owner. When I am gone or I sell it someone may or may not see it. Thanks for sharing. Now I know the name is Doug Maze.

I just wanted to share that I put my GT-H (06304) on the lift today to change oil and found D. Maze on the right frame rail, and a heart drawn on the oil pan, the sig was in black sharpie, the heart was in another color that matched some of the suspension markings (maybe done at the ford plant). The next time I lift it up I'll try to have a camera ready, I also lifted my 2008 SGT vert but found no signatures.

It does not appear that D. Maze was an employee of Shelby Auto's. No one here at SAI recalls that name.

My best guess is that he was a Hertz employee and possibly was sent out to SAI to inspect the cars before they were loaded on the transport trucks. This would explain how he was able to autograph the cars and also sign the PDI checklist.

So the next question is, does anyone have a 2007 Hertz convertible signed by D. Maze?

While on tour in August, Jeremy stated that Doug Maze worked for Ford.

He signed my car on the passenger side inner frame rail. Black Sharpie bandit!

That too would make sense, either a Hertz or Ford employee. He was consistent in signing the passenger side inner rail.

But we still have the question of the GT-H converts. Do any of them have a signature from Maze?

Another thought to find the elusive Mr Maze. On the cars that has his signature, what was the Hertz rental location the car was assigned ?? It's very possible that Maze was / is a Hertz maintenance employee who signed the cars to verify inspection of the chassis modifications done by SAI. No-one at Hertz thus far can remember any Hertz national fleet policy or directive requiring this signing so maybe it was a local Hertz thing. Please post the Hertz rental location your 2006 GT-H was assigned, if you're not sure send me a PM with the last six numbers of your Vehicle Identification Number and I'll locate for you. Another GT-H mystery to be solved. Larry

#102 was a San Diego Rental. When I spoke to Bud about this, he said that he though Doug worked there as he knew him by face, but he very likely was a Hertz or Ford employee at Las Vega reviewing the builds. Bud said that he also signed some of them but when Amy and others found out, they were told to stop. I'm guessing that maybe some of the late build '06's are not signed and the converts are probably also not signed.

However, very cool stuff that is now documented to these fabulous cars.

Hi Guys, I am in England and own #488. I can confirm the inside face of my passenger side chassis rail is signed by two people. It appears to be black sharpie. Next time I'm under the car I will try to work out what are the names of the signers.
