Whats your profession

Just wondering what the average profession is of Gt 500 owners and has the economy effected you? I have my own Fire Protection business for over 8 years and been in the trade for over 18 years. I built my company from nothing and now have my 2 sons working for me. I come from a family of loggers who believe if you not going to work get the hell out of the way and by the way your fired. I built my company from nothing, at 43 years old I'm still packing sprinkler pipe climbing up and down ladders and won't let my sons show me up. I usually work up to 9 pm doing paperwork after putting in a full day in the field. And yes my company is over the $250,000 mark and I'm not looking forward to the future taxes. I bust my ass and don't want to pay for some SOB who doesn't want to get off there butt. So I decided to treat my self this year and by a Cobra, I had a 66 stang back when I was 16 at which time I was living on my own "kicked out by step dad" and yes I made it through high school thanks to my wife of 24 years (high school sweet heart). Since that time I only looked forward and tell my sons to do the same. Hard work, determination and honesty.

General Contractor (Union) specializing in institutional buildings (schools both public and private, medical, office). Business has slowed a little over the past year but we just work that much harder to make it up. I am upbeat that the economy will soon pull out of it.

57 years old with an '08 Shelby GT

Been retired for 7 years after 29 years with the Spokane Police Dept.-5 years in Major Crimes and 7 years in Intelligence.

Married to my High School (Chinook, Montana) sweet-heart for 38 years.

My first car was a new 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger 340 when I graduated High School. I worked on a ranch for 8 years to pay for it.

In High School I drove my Great grand-father's 1962 Ford Falcon Futura. It had the 170 ci and a 2 speed auto, which is probably why I'm alive today. Top end was 82. When I grew up in Montana there was no day light speed limit. I inherited the Futura in 1989 and over the years have put $28,000 into it. It now sports a 302 and a 5 speed.

I've been stopped 3 times in this car (Shelby). Once in Dallas, as I drove it back to Phoenix, for 63 in a 55. The next day in New Mexico, the trooper was looking for someone that had gone thru his radar at 120+MPH. When he saw me cruising along at 83 in a 75 he assumed it had been me from 'the looks of the car'. And last time was in Vegas just to look at the car and ask questions. No tickets yet but I admit I like to drive it like I was back in Montana in the '60s.

Im 27 and was in the navy for eight years. Got out as an E-6 with a background in electronics. Got a job climbing wind turbines and commissioning the hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical components in each one as the wind farms were built. I lost that job due to the state of virginia putting me in jail over a speeding ticket. I did 11 days in jail and got out to the loss of a six figure job and the economy goin to the dogs. They realized i had gotten a raw deal and would hire me back but they were laying off at the time due to the economy (i might get it back some day) After 6 months of unemployment and a chapter 7 and almost losing my car, i worked part time for a ford dealership in the garage then got a job for PAR technology fixing the touch screen computer based registers u see at mcdonalds and so on. I might have repaird one in your town! Im going to school in two weeks to finish my electrical engineering degree and working part time at par and living off both my disability check, GI bill housing allowance check nad my part time check. Hopefully when im done with school I will find a good paying job in a good area. For now im worried cuz the economy has PAR outsourcing alot of jobs to china (wich i think is one of the reasons we r in such trouble as a nation imho) and i could be on the block. Prayin it doesnt happen. Not bad for only 27 right guys?

Not as interesting of a career as some of you but here it goes. I have been in IT for over 12 years, most of my time as a UNIX Administrator. Before I started in IT I worked as a Cartographer (map maker) for Rand McNally You probably have a map or Road Atlas that I worked on at some time in your car or glove compartment.

I currently work in the insurance industry which had seen decline early in this recession but seems to be regaining ground again. Although it is a slow growth it is growth and that's a good sign.

Joined the Army at 19 now im 24 and a SSG. I bought an 08 GT the first time i was in Afghanistan, through an AAFES program. I got home and had it for about 8 months and decided i either needed to put alot of money into it to get what i wanted, or i could trade it in and get a Shelby. So thanks to my wonderful wife who didn't need much convincing (she loves Shelby's old and new.) I went out and got my 08 GT500. I love driving this car when i am home, and my wife loves driving it when im gone. It has been a project for the both of us and we do all the maintenance and mods together. We have been married for a little under 2 years but where high school sweethearts that discovered through everything we where ment for each other and found one another again after being separated for more than 5 years. We couldnt be happier!

  • 2 years later...

Just retired from a 35+ year career in the Air Force/Air Force Reserve/Civil Service. I was an full Air Reserve Technician and dual hatted. About 10% of all Guard/Reserve units are full timers and that was me. Getting ready to start a second/third career soon possibly. If so I'll be ordering a 2014 Shelby GT-500 as it will be the last of the old time Muscle Mustangs.

Update: What a great prediction on my part. Picked up a 2014 last month.

This is the most interesting topic! My husband is 63 and has farmed and ranched all his life. Our farm is now a 5th generation farm and two of our sons are with us after getting their college degrees. Growing up in small town America in the 60s was muscle car heaven. We raise small grain and sheep and cattle. it takes a lot of acres in this part of the country and the ups and downs are quite a ride with prices, weather etc. I have been a stock broker and ins agent for 20 years and am now a Foundation Director for a small hospital 45 miles away. I have 16 months or less to retirement and I am ready! We are looking forward to going to some of the Shelby events and travelling a bit.

For anyone who is looking for work, head to Western North Dakota and the oil fields. Pay is awesome and work in every area. No place to live so bring a camper. Lots of people work their two weeks on and commute all over the country to go home their 2 weeks off. We are about 100 miles away from all of that craziness but it is moving closer.

I'm one of the old dudes here. I'll be 65 in a few weeks.Have always owned some kind of performance car. After a tour in Vietnam (68-69} with the Marine Corps, I came home a bought my first new car. a 1970 lime green Roadrunner.I loved that car but got a speeding ticket every other month! It was the color.Never really that much over the limit, maybe 10 to 20 mph.Sold it,bought a 70 Boss 302. Many cars to follow over the years....too many to list. I was a meat cutter for 12 years in California. Decided to move and ended up in Las Vegas. Changed jobs, became a bartender for over 20 years for a few major casinos. Was single and had a blast. Moved to Lexington,SC 5 years ago and retired on my 62nd birthday.Bought my 2012 Shelby This past May 8th, two days before Carroll passed. Traded my 06 Porsche Cayman S for it. This car is just plain fun! I hope it will be my last.

Battalion Chief and training director for the fire department of the second largest city in Illinois, Chicago being number one population wise. Just traded my 2012 competition orange Boss off for a 2011 Shelby race red SVTPP, Elec package. Could not be happier.

31 here. I handle sales and tech support for an autopilot company. We build autopilots and instruments for the Experimental-Amateur Built aviation market. My heart has always been with cars though...

I traded the GT500 for my current 5.0 due to never driving the Shelby. Way too much money to be tied up in a car I didn't enjoy.
