Shelby Signature on the air bag plate... anyone?

Recommended Posts

I just purchased a 2010 GT500 Black with silver and I want to get the Carroll Shelby signature plaque for the dash, but when I talked to the Shelby organization, they said that they don't have a 2010 badge for the GT500. They recommended to send in the passenger airbag cover. I was wondering if anyone had done this and if they had a picture of it.

Should I have them put the vin by the signature? Let me know what you think.

Same for me! I HAVE BLACK WITH SILVER AND WANT A SIGNATURE ADDED.WHAT WOULD BE THE COST FOR A NEW COVER. MAYBE SHELBY COULD STOCK SOME ALREADY SIGNED TO AVOID THE DOUBLE SHIPPING.

I just took mine by a friend's body shop. It took them a total of 15 minutes with trash talk to remove. Unless there has been major changes I think it was 4 bolts, unclip the harness and it's out. Actual cover was held onto the airbag assy by 3 tabs at the top and 3 tabs at the bottom. I just put the airbag unit in a box away from everything else and mailed the trim cover only to Shelby Foundation. DO NOT KEEP THE AIRBAG UNIT IN THE CAR OR IN THE TRUNK. Craig

Are you going to have your VIN number put on the cover with Shelby's sig like on the plate ones or just a signature?

You are just leaving the airbag out of the car until you get the plate back?

I may have to try that this weekend.

You might want to give Shelby a call back and tell them to check their own publication. It CLEARLY shows a badge for the 2010 GT500.

On pge 84 of "Shelby 2009 Annual Driving Machines" (I bought mine at Pep-Boys) it shows a photo of a plaque with the caption 2010 Console Plaque.

The photo shows it has;

"CS Shelby" logo (across the top, in blue)

Carroll Shelby signature (Large blue letters)

VIN NUMBER (small red letters)

SHELBY GT500 (small blue letters)

It appears to be mounted just ahead of the shifter boot where the small "Sync" badge is located.

The description is as follows:

2010 CONSOLE PLAQUE

Shelby Peromrance Parts' console plaque is the ultimate Shelby accessory for the 2010 Shelby GT500 owners. Made from solid 6061 billet aluminum, the plate is manufactured by the same supplier that builds dash plaques for Shelby Automobiles. This one features a genuine Caroll Shelby signature, as signed by the man himself. (Note: Due to multiple levels of manufacturing, including Caroll Shelby's personal signature, allow for a minimum of 8-10 weeks form the date of purchase for this kit to be completed).

Someone at Shelby needs to learn their product catalog!

some of the confusion on the 2010 console plaque might be that it is not advertised by the Shelby Store but rather by Shelby Performance parts (www.sheblyperformanceparts.com or phone at 702 405 3500). i talked to them and they said that the advertisement had come out prematurely....it is only in prototype at this point and they are awaiting Shelby approval on the prototype.....said that it would probably not be available for ordering until late January or early February 2010.

hope it helps and good luck

I saw it too and had try to call SPP and also i had email them because it is not on the webside from them but i still waiting for a answer. Have send them already 4 mails and had try to call them around 20 times in the last 2 weeks but nothing. Shelby need to think about it to sell everything with the shelby store because then it works. SPP :censored: they have NO service even the webside search option show still only 05 to 08 not even 09 and 2010. So it looks like i need to send in my own airbag cover to get a Carroll Shelby signature in my car. I be really happy that i can buy stuff here in the shelby store!!!

I would simply remove the cover and send it out to get signed. No need to buy an additional one.

As for the signature itself, just go with his normal signature and forget about adding the VIN #. If you want the VIN #, get the dash plaque instead.

I have 1 of each. I think it's a bit much. Of the two the airbag cover is the best and gets noticed much more quickly. I don't think anyone has sent in a 2010 airbag cover yet so no comment on the installation etc.

Just pulled my 2010 GT500 Airbag cover today! Took lots of pics. It's a bit different than the 09. I bought the Ford shop manual for the 2010. Differences are: you need to pull fuse 31 for teh depowering procedure, and unbolt (Torx 25) and set aside the APIM underneath the airbag module before you can get to the module bolts/harness. Removing the cover from the module is the same. Maybe I'll do a writeup soon.

COOL!

I have a signed cover sitting in the garage, do you think it's an easy swap if you don't have a service manual?

FYI, turnaround for the signature in December was about three weeks, tops!

I myself e-mailed the other day and this was the response I got about the console plaque. Quote direct from the shelby store via e-mail "As of now we don't know yet, keep checking the site for updates." WTF kind of response is that?

That is such a lame-ass excuse... And GAF Soldier is right, the SPP site still shows the 2008 catalog of parts. NOTHING listed for 2010, I can tell you that... Considering these 2010's have been on the road since April/May there is definitely a shortage of modding parts available.

It's not hard at all. I can scan the relevant service manual pages for you if you'd like. The hardest part is removing / reattaching the cover to the module. Just gotta be patient. Gotta pay attenion to the details, you don't want your airbag blowing up in your face, or splitting open that newly signed airbag cover. Also, I'm thinking that by taking out the fuse and checking that the airbag light stays on, I might have to take it in to have some codes cleared. Not sure though. Has anyone else out there pulled the fuse as described in the power/depower airbag procedure? Did you have any error codes that needed clearing? Looks like some people just unhooked the battery, but I'd rather follow the directions in the manual.

See scans below. The '07 manual page for the cover removal / install on the module is the same word-for-word as the '10 so I copied the pdf from another post rather than scanning it all over again.

Since the car is made by Ford, not Shelby, why the signature--IMHO

I didn't realize Mr. Shelby turned wrenches on any of the models, any year or sat and helped in quality control.

I do think he helped with specifications, engineering and ideas over all these years. Does that make it a Shelby? I think they needed his "approval" to move the snake badge on the grill in 2010.

Some people put way too much stock into the name of the shop these cars are built in imo.

Really? You're kidding me, right? Don't 'cha know nuttin'?

Mr. Shelby hand-built each and every Shelby GT500 and GT500KR that hit the showroom floor.

Him personally, with his own two hands.

No, really.

Hey, I'm serious.

Stop laughing.

A friend of my 3rd cousin's best friends aunt on his fathers side knows Carroll Shelby peronally, and he told me so too.

That, and I read it on the Internet...so it *must* be true.

And if you look it up on Wickapedia, it'll confirm it.

You wanna hear about Elvis's Harley he found in a barn, or the lady that sold her dead son's '54 chevy for 200 bucks too?

How about a bridge I have for sale? You interested?
