Question for those who ordered early but just got their car.

Recommended Posts

For those who ordered early but had their car set in some lot for months....what kind of shape was the paint in? I am not talking about the usual orange peel in the paint but was there junk on the car...acid rain, etc....?

I know some of the guys had some chipped paint and a few dings. I will let you know on my car if I ever get it.

My car was sitting outside in Flat Rock for two full months. It was rail transported from Michigan to Maryland then trucked to Virginia. I insisted on taking delivery of an UNPREPPED car. It was in MUCH better shape than I thought it would be. Really the only problem (besides a very rusty rear axle and pumpkin) was some dirty water spotting. I should have taken "before" pics, but here are the "afters." I spent a day washing, clay-barring, polishing, and sealing.

I CAREFULLY inspected the car in the few days after delivery. The paint was virtually flawless. No orange peel, etc. There was a single tiny scratch near the antenna. It's so tiny that I tried to take a picture of it, but it didn't even come out all that well. I decided not to bring it up to the dealer. They would only make it worse. I'll deal with it later.

I went to my dealer to see the Grabber Blue coupe they received. I was at the dealership within 2 hours of them taking it off the transporter so it was not prepped yet...although they did already have the dealer sticker on it  Anyway, it was FILTHY!!!! Water spots galore and it was surprisingly sticky to the touch. I was not buying the car but I talked to them at great length to be very careful about prepping. I even recommended they wait until sold to let the buyer decide who prepps. They've got college kids prepping cars that do not always know or care about what they're prepping. I will take my car unprepped, please. Baby Gorilla did it right!!! I will absolutely do the same thing!

Thanks for the feedback....does make me feel a little better. I know I am anal when it comes to cars but it is not a bottom of the line econo box and I still don't understand why Ford cannot ship the cars as they come off of the line.

Baby Gorilla, car looks great...I believe you have car detailing figured out...I think I will just skip the dealer prep and invite you down for a day or so (located in East Tennessee).

One of the worst parts about waiting so long was the thought of my car sitting outside in the rain and sun day after day. I was pleasantly surprised. This paint and clear coat was meant to take months and months and months of the elements. It certainly wasn't clean when I got it, but after a thorough cleaning, the paint looked absolutely brand new, like it had just rolled off the line that day. And I don't even have any real detailing experience, aside from what I've learned by trial and error and through forums like this over the years.

I am very happy that I took this car unprepped. My dealer thought I was crazy. However, NO ONE will care for your car half as much as you. I would recommend the same to anyone else. I've seen dealers "detail" cars. The sponge, chamois, etc. that is used on your car was used on dozens of cars before it and was probably dropped on the ground a few times.

"By the way, I appreciate the offer to come to Tennessee. However, I am a hard-core Connecticut Huskies fan and don't much care for Pat Summit"

Two sides to every story so we would probably not agree on women's basketball..but that is what makes the world go round, but we do agree on cars!

Had some rail dust and tree sap they cleaned it off and it was Perfecto. Love MY SVT Cobra. Sat for 4 months after build.

Let my dealer do some basic prep, but I did most of the work on my Grabber Blue ride. No paint problems like chips or scrapes, but lots of hard water marks, and something that look liked overspray (in a light reflection, it almost appeared somewhat like a gold colored mist). Some rail dust but not as much as I expected. After a very thorough washing, clay bar work, and some Zaino wax, it looks flat amazing. I even had to clay bar the windows to get the water marks off.

I must say that the quality of the paint on this car is much better than that on my 03 Cobra. I think that the change in assembly plants made a difference.
