How Much Did You Pay For Painted Stripes?

Recommended Posts

1) im sick of mine oxidating and turning brown, its happened twice now and the dealership takes 6 months everytime to get me new ones. Luckily they warantee them. But i was wondering about just having them painted on.

2) i hate the whole painted scoop/white stripe thing. Am i being OCD?

3) possibly, I would like to get a new hood, a paintable Carbon Fiber Cowl to be exact. Or perhaps, the GT-H hood

When I had my hood stripes and scoop replaced under warranty, I had the body shop paint the scoop to match the stripes and paint the black stripe on it and clear coat over the scoop. It looks great! Therefore, I told myself (but not my wife), when the time comes to replace the stripes, they are gonna be painted on (including the side stripes). They can be expensive if you want a real show car finish I've heard quotes of $3500 just for the "over the top" stripes (not including the sides). But, I don't seem to be having a problem with my stripes now so I hope I can put off that expense for a couple years or so.

If I had the money now, I'd probably go for the paint job first and then save up for the supercharger. Fo me, the car has to look good first! Then we can consider making it go faster. I bought the car for its looks and it already has enough power to get me in plenty of trouble.

I had mine done by Milani's Auto craft in Novato. He did beautiful work. I don't trust anyone with my car. It was worth the 200 mile trip.

Are your stripes doing this:

http://www.teamshelby.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=42158

Do you garage it or it outside?

I've seen stripes go from $1300-$3000 depending upon what they do, coats of clear, etc.

In the end you get what you pay for.

mine's Shelby outside. The garage is taken with a 700hp S2000, a Boss429 and a couple streetbikes. Only recently did i start using a covercraft evolution. For two years the silver stripes go from white speckles to brown rust every time. Ive read about the whole bogus warantee blame placing game between Shelby and the stripe manufacturers, but we've all heard enough about that.

The dealership is good to me. They owe the Uno family. Between my father, and grandfather's farm trucks, and my mustangs. We've purchased over 60 vehicles from this dealership. So they are always nice about getting the stripes fixed for me. But im just sick of how long it takes each time.

Which dealership are you using?

I'm tellin ya man, Gold River is the way to go. They've got a half dozen classic Shelbys sitting in their shop right now getting paint work done.

Troy made my Shelby scoop functional and beautiful. It's a family run business and has been around forever. Good luck!

its actually a relatively small family owned dealership in Woodland called Elm Ford. Nothing near the size of persay Future Ford in Sacramento. Ill defenitely give that Gold River place a call.

My drivers license will be back in within 4 weeks and I've still got a Whipple to install up at AED and if i can find a strut tower brace that fits over the Whipple and under a hood (maybe a 2-3" cowl), i will be happy to buy a new hood. I believe Steeda makes one that fits over the Whipple but im not sure if im remembering that correctly.

this Shelby addiction is costing me a lot and i can't afford the Shelby, the Hayabusa and the R6. My S2000 isnt even registered or insured to drive anymore because of the SGT....anyone looking to buy an 08' Yamaha R6 painted Ford HP White for 8k?...just kidding...kind of...i don't know haha.

You're in good hands with AED. Can't wait to see the pics and dyno results.

I'm looking for a bike actually. Let me know when you're not kind of kidding. :)

About 2k on my gt500, and they are exactly like oem.

Is there a little dimension to the paint somehow? OEM to me means a raised stripe (oh and crappy yellowing too!).. ;)

i head that if you paint the stripes, you have to paint the whole car. Is this true? if mine go bad again, ill be out of the warranty coverage and either i buy the stripes myself or paint them on.

Not true at all. You'll need to clearcoat the hood, roof, bumpers, and trunk though. It's well worth it IMO.

lol for sure Ken. The Yamaha R6 is the best 600 ive ever ridden, its nimble and light enough for everyday riding, but with 106 hp it's still a wheelie holding beast on the track. They say its more track inspired then most of the 600's and id break my back if i ever had to ride it for 4 hours. But its definitely fun. And the great thing... to have the whole thing painted Ford HP White to match my Shelby in the driveway, it only costed me 600 bucks haha.

the more that i think about it, ill probably sell the Hayabusa (GSXR-1300) before the R6...that 1300cc Busa only gets 24 mpg, and absolutely scares the bejeesus out of me to ride. I don't even know why i have it anymore!

sorry to hijack my own thread by the way.

My brother had an R1 that I nearly killed myself on a few times. The R6 would be perfect for me now I think. :)
