dh777
Just wondering, those who have a SGT with an automatic transmission, have you done anything to the transmission to increase performance?
tekheavy
Just wondering, those who have a SGT with an automatic transmission, have you done anything to the transmission to increase performance? I haven't made any mechanical changes to the tranny, but the custom tune I have from Brenspeed made a world of difference in the way it shifts. Much later shift points and firmer shift pressure. Plus it got rid of that lag you get when you first press on the gas.

ShowCar
Torque converter and tune really wake the car up. On the tune I went from 13.6 to 13.3 and picked up 3mph in the quarter mile. The converter is next on the list.
JeffIsHereToo
Plus it got ride of that lag you get when you first press on the gas. My 2005 GT was an auto and that "lag" at first made me think something was wrong with the car. Glad to hear there's a way to get rid of it! Chill
Evan is right on. The custom tune really seemed to get control of the transmission. One of the best things I've done. Hadn't thought of the torque converter. Chuck

Stock automatic tranny pretty strong so why mess with it...
one_quik_pony
I hear on that lag, but not doing anything to void the warranty. Stock automatic tranny pretty strong so why mess with it... Because, in my opinion, the upshifts are way too mushy, throttle downshift lags way too much, it's hit or miss whether it will downshift on acceleration, and will still remain "pretty strong" after reprogramming. Did I miss anything?
tekheavy
I hear on that lag, but not doing anything to void the warranty. Stock automatic tranny pretty strong so why mess with it... My major issue with the stock tune was the tranny shift points were way too early, causing the engine to lug down at times. It felt like if you were driving a manual transmission in the wrong gear. With my Brenspeed tune, my car now shifts the same way it would if I were driving a stick. If I have any warranty concerns, I can always reprogram it back to stock. ShowCar
Mine shifts at 6,200 every gear change. Throttle response is instant.
