Proof that Black SGTs are the slowest

Maybe this is old news but I don't recall seeing it before. According to FRPP

Black OEM wheels weigh 30.2lbs each.

Silver OEM wheels on the White, Blue, and Orange SGTs weigh 28.4lbs each.

Thus Black SGTs with the OEM wheels have 7.2lbs more unsprung weight than their counterparts.

Just having fun.

FYI: The GT500 OEM wheels are listed as 34lbs each http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_...rtKeyField=9485

Wonder why? I know paint weighs a little bit, but....

The next time I have a silver wheel / tire off I'll try to weigh both if I can somehow.

edit - Incidentally, I read in Grassroots Motorsports once, an article about setting up Mustang GT's for autocrossing. They switched their car wheels from 18" to 17", and by doing so picked up 2/10ths in the 1/4 mile.

Anyway, the point is that lighter wheels do make a difference, so yes, this does prove that the white SGT's are faster.

Someday there needs to be a Black vs. White SGT drag competition somewhere - call it the Checkerboard Nationals or something.

I thought the reason White and Blue SGTs are lighter was because there's only air between the ears of their drivers?

FYI, If you all didn't already know. SAI and Ford had to increase the weight of the wheels due to such unbelievable acceleration that litterly would blow the tires right off the car. So they used higher density paint on the rims to slow down wheel speed on the Black SGT's, otherwise it just wouldn't be safe to market this car.

And that is my story. :hysterical:

well, if we could just get you to drive to Bobs house then we'd be all set! :lurk:

Any plans to visit Connecticut?..........with your Shelby?

Boy I'd like to. Sounds like a good experiment to see if the paint does make a difference. But in this case it wouldn't because I'd have my wife race and she's about 100 pounds soaking wet. :hysterical:

I'll buy that quote. Everytime you guys start talking about what you're working on or have completed it starts turning the gears in my head! Any mods will be up to my better half. After all; it is her car. Examples:

Don't take my car. It will get dusty. Take yours.

Did you change the oil in my car?

When are you going to put that lower grill in my car? (This is done by the way)

Sound familiar guys?? :hysterical:

Wait until she learns about gears, tunes and superchargers......

Of course you may want to leave some articles conveniently placed in strategic locations to speed up the process.

My car was bought for my wife as well....

The extra 28 pounds is to handicap the black cars so the others can keep up. :jackinbox:

Swap out the black rims to the chrome rims. You'll smoke him by lightening up your car so much. :hysterical:

In a more serious note, the automatic with a change of your engine tune, a 3:73 gear, some good drag radials, you can run with or beat your neighbor in the quarter. But....he wouldn't even see your rear tailights in any form of a road race, which the SGT was made for. A good apples to apples comparison in the quarter, both in stock form would be a GT500 to a Charger. Niether can quite run with your SGT in stock form on a road course. :shift:

FYI SGT or GT500 gotta luv em. :happy feet:

Oh, yes, you can twin turbo an automatic (probably could produce more boost than your stock engine would/could need, also fairly expensive unless your going all out. Not recommended with the stock transmision, but would be much less likely to break parts with an automatic). If your set on it, install a supercharger then you will see your neighbors headlights all the time.

He would be.. ing his eyes out.

It is all about what you want and how much you want to spend and how much you like working on your car. No matter what kind of car you have, you abuse it, you break it!!!
