EL SHELBY
I'm participating in my first road course driving school in a couple weeks at the Motor Sports Ranch in Cresson, TX. I need a helmet and I'm looking for where I can find a good deal either locally or on-line. Can anyone recommend a shop for purchasing a helmet? Thanks, J-

Thanks, J- HEY HEY!! :happy feet: I was just there today! great track!! Your best bet is to speak with the other drivers there and see if they have a used one they can sell you. Most of them do they just don't want to do it, trust me. If no luck try http://www.soloracer.com/helmetsale.html or http://cs-gear.com/ They have great prices with your level I would go with a open face. More breathing room and less weight. ingram4868
If you want new, <<LINK>> The trouble about buying used is the expiration date (some tracks actually look at the dates) and if it has taken any hard hits it is junk.
ilmor
I got mine from soloracer.com. No problems w/ them at all.
EL SHELBY
Cool, How much should brand play into the purchase when considering they all have the same Snell rating? I'm assuming the only difference past the rating to consider comes down to comfort.

I think, essentially, you will pay more for lighter weight, which could be helpful during long races (easier on the neck muscles). If you're just autocrossing, however, I don't think that's so important. I got the G-Force brand. Full-face is recommended no matter what. Comfort of your head and how it feels inside the helmet may be different between some helmets but I don't know and again it depends on how long you'll have it on. I've had a Bell in the past and now this G-Force and they feel the same to me. edit - this is the one I have - http://www.soloracer.com/gfforcehybrid.html
07SGT0547
Right after I bought my SGT in 2007, I purchased a pair (one for the wife) of G-Force Open Faced Helmets for $150 each... www.ApexPerformance.net They also include a very nice Helmet Bag and Cotton Balaclava for each helmet... Also looks like they are still doing FREE shipping... And if you want to save 10% use the following Promo Code: APEX-WINS-10 Drive Safe! 07SGT0547

A lot cooler on hot days.

Thanks, J- Just remember to keep any savings for future mods... Because once you do this for the 1st time, there's no going back to "just driving" down the street... Hmmm, brakes & tires come to mind... Drive Safe! 07SGT0547

Drive Safe! 07SGT0547 Brakes and tires are my only concern after reading thru your adventures but I'm banking that being a rookie I will not be pushing that hard as I learn how to drive safe and feel the movement of the car as it transfers it weight side to side, back to front, front to back. I'll post an update to my 1st session on a track in a couple weeks.

I'll post an update to my 1st session on a track in a couple weeks. That's what I thougt too But driving this car on the track can be addictive (However, I call it therapy...) whether going fast OR slow... Especially if you have a WHITE one But remember that once you start driving smoother, faster and more proficient to turn OFF the TCS right before you go out on the track... Otherwise, you will eat up the REAR pads faster than the FRONTS... So while it is good to have it ON for the slower runs and while you are getting a feel of your car on the track... The TCS will actually hinder you, especially in the turns when you are trying to keep your speed up... Maybe why the 2010 Mustang GT now has a "Track" setting, instead of just ON or OFF But check with your Instructor just to make sure... John George is the owner and a track junkie. He instructs for us at Track Guys and other groups in Texas. He runs an AI car in NASA and may even be running at the event at Motorsport Ranch.
