Whammer
Well after reading all the great things about the KR mufflers I ordered myself a set and just got them installed. Previously I had on a set of Borla mufflers. Sound wise the Borla's were quite a bit louder. The KR's seem fairly quiet to me and it's only when you get over 4000rpm that they really seem to come alive. There is no drone at highway cruising speed so that's a real plus. The Borla's had an annoying drone in 5th and 6th. Previously I had the Borla's on my 08 Bullitt and they never had any drone problem. I'm hoping the KR's just need a little time to break in and that they will get a bit louder and deeper sounding. But thus far they are a bit disappointing. Whammer
No I didn't get the H pipe. Most people who got the KR mufflers didn't seem to get the H pipe and thought the sound was great. Not really sure what the H pipe does. Most high performance exhaust uses an X pipe- which the GT500 already has. So why go to an inferior pipe? I know the H pipe on my Bullitt had something that looked like a washer inside of the cross piece- this probably accounted for the rumbling sound of the exhaust. I think he KR H pipe is probably the same. The tailpipes on the KR are the same as the Bullitt tailpipes. The mufflers themselves look pretty close to my Borla's. Whammer
They have to be different Borla's. Mine Borla's were at least 15% louder than the KR's. They also rumbled at much lower rpm's.

I'm curious which Borla mufflers you have because the Borla Stingers I heard were loud but also had a drone at cruising speeds.
Grabber
The H-pipe does wake up the KR mufflers. Last night a member (07 cobra) came over to my house with his GT500. He has the KR mufflers only. He wanted to compare it to my GT500 which has the KR mufflers and H-pipe. This is the first time I have done a side by side comparison in my driveway. My set up with the H-pipe is louder. You can tell the difference very easily.

From the first time I started it up the sound was great with the KR's. The Borla's installed with the 40th were almost like stock - a little louder, but still too quiet. So I swapped them for the Borla Stingers which were much louder, but have a nasty drone around 2000 rpm. So I'm now going with the KR's since they have a nicer sound with no drone - or so I'm told. I have quite the collection of muffler's piling up here. Anyone interested?

Not knowing any different I sold my SGT'sand I wish I would have kept them on. The 40th Borla's are way to mellow for my taste.
cammerunderpressure
Did you install the h-pipe? I know the h-pipe is getting alot of press, but I really like the sound of the KR's without it. I think the car has a more exotic sound without the H-pipe. Everybody has their own preference, but I absolutley love the KR muffler sound with the x-pipe. My car is a convertible, so it is plenty loud as is. BanditSRT8
See, that's the beauty of them. They aren't annoying. You want just LOUD (and raspy) get some 5GT's and you're all good. The KR's sound "tuned". They are fairly mellow at an idle and cruise (bit still have some nice sound) and then scream when you go WOT. Plus not having drone... that's a huge difference in quality. I think you should have someone drive your car for you, and cruise by you. What makes these so unique is that the sound is very directional... the sound in front of the car is minimal, beside is a bit more detectable, and from behind they are louder. Being inside the car, you won't hear them like people you are passing hear them. Trust me, they turn heads, even lightly blipping the throttle. If you want more volume, get the H-pipe and you might be all set. Good thing is that you can install it, and if you hate it... you will easily get a buyer for the mufflers and pipe, so you can't lose too much. To me the 5Gt are the least raspy of all the exhaust I have tried, Question why does everyone have to get an hpipe to make the KR's sound decent? I was one of the first to own the KRs (hated them) and then I decided to buy the Hpipe, Matter of fact I owned one of the first, if not the first Hpipe sent out by powerhouse. I decided to not waste anymore on the KRs. so I sold the hpipe

I was thinking these were suppose to be the ultimate. Now it seems like I've got to invest in an H pipe to make these things come alive.

I have a Mustang shop and have pulled them off several customer's cars that did not like them....read the link, and listen to the sound clips...I've been there done that with trying all the different off the shelf mufflers..spend over $4K of my money with mufflers that did no sound right... NICK82
Well after listening to Grabbers vidoes, I think the KR's would go best with an H-Pipe, this is for the old school 67GT500 sound. If you're after the higher pitched/exotic yet smooth sound. I have found the Borla catback with stock headers to be the right choice. I even put a set of Borla Longtube headers on (X-pipe Delete) and it was way too raspy/rough for my taste so went back to stock with just the Borla Catback. It's not too loud but it has such an usual - tuned sound I really enjoy it. If you're after the old school rumble though get the H-pipe with either the KR's or the Magnaflow Magnapacks. jcthorne
I really think the sound of the SLPs with the stock X pipe sound FAR better than the full KR exhaust. Very nice note, not too loud and NO DRONE. Been very pleased with them and they look great on the car too for 3 years.....
Whammer
I just ordered the H pipe from Powerhouse Racing. I spoke with the owner and he assured me that the sound from these is old school 60's muscle car and they really make the KR's come alive. He said if I don't like them he will give me a full refund.. Note to Canadians- shipping to Canada is $10. They screwed up on their website and they never factored in shipping rates to Canada, it will be corrected tonight. The owner said if I buy them now I can get the shipping for $10.
AlloyDropTop
I am going on record as one of the few that love the KR Muffler sound with the x-pipe. I think it sounds more exotic and even like the Ford GT. I actually can't imagine it getting any better. I know everybody wants the car to sound like something else, like a '67, or a 5.0L, etc..., but I think it sounds like a Mustang with a supercharged, 4-valve, exotic engine from a Ford GT, with the x-pipe and the KR mufflers. I am not bashing all the love for the h-pipe. Everybody has their own preferences, and that is what is so cool about this group, but I want to make sure that the KR / X-pipe camp has some love, too.... vapor08GT500
thank you for the kind words, Whammer!! Try the H-pipe then and listen to Grabber's videos (you probably already have) and see if you like the sound..IMO the KR's, h-pipe or not, are too boatlike sounding for my tastes. That is the beauty of these cars, to each their own. Sound is such a preference and there are many different sounds that you can get out of these cars. Keep us posted on what you end up doing... Secondo
Too bad it's very difficult to get that sound from these cars that everyone likes. With the old 5.0 cars its was easy- just get the Flomasters and you're set. I had a cheap ($40/set) Thrush Sonic Turbo mufflers on my '72 351C and they sounded awesome. If anyone wants to sell their used KR's, PM me.

I went from stock to 5GT/Stingers to KR's and greatly prefer the KR's with the stock X pipe. The wife loves them (especially the lack of drone) and frankly I don't want to spend any more on mufflers when I could saving for brake upgrades.
