YZD263
I would be surprised if there was a real safety issue preventing you from importing them. I looked as the most recent list of US vehicles admissible for import issued by the Registrar of Imported Vehicles. Indeed the only Shelby admissible appears to be the 2009 GT500KR, which is very strange. It is also interesting to note that Shelbys are listed under Ford/Mercury/Lincoln. It doesn't refer to where the vehicles are built. Consequently, based on the strict wording on that list, even a regular GT500 wouldn't be admissible for import, which does not make sense. This restriction seems to be new. When I was shopping for my own GT500, I was contemplating the possibility of importing one from the US and never saw that restriction. What is surprising is that the safety rules where somewhat harmonized last summer, resulting in many cars becoming admissible. For instance, you don't see the Ford GT on the inadmissible list anymore even though the sale of that model in Canada was delayed by a year due to a safety issue (rear bumper I believe). I think that you should try to talk to someone at the Registrar of Imported Vehicles to check what the safety issue is with the SGT (or with all Shelbys other than the 2009 KR for that matter). I had absolutely no problems having mine imported, though I just checked the transport Canada list and you're right. It says all other Shelby models other than the 09 kr and gt500. That is absolutely bizarre, I know that wasn't there when I did it back in 07. It's still just a standard mustang at the core, I don't know why they would disallow it all of a sudden. I would do a few inquiries before giving up on it.

My 07 SGT passed with flying colours, other than having to have daytime runners installed. The federal inspection sheet is about 4 questions long though, I think it was basically daytime running lights, immobilizer after a certain build date, proper child tethers and a speedo with metric or something like that. The monkey at Canadian Tire that did the inspection for me was done in about 3 minutes. The provincial one is the inspection that will be the real pain depending on the cars condition but at the time my car had 400 miles on it so again it was a no brainer. Of course, if you fail a provincial you don't have to export the vehicle. If you fail federal and don't have it up to speed by a certain date after the examination I believe it has to go back. You can apply for extensions I'm sure but I think I'd rather check into all of that before even bothering to bring it in.

I also checked list at the time and that restriction was not there then. I called transport Canada and they told me at the time all I needed was to add DRLs.
