tekheavy
I'm restriping my hood stripes in a couple of days and wanted to see what is involved in taking off the scoop. I still have the original 07 scoop. After taking the inner hood liner out, I was surprised at how many bolts hold it on. I was expecting to see 4 or maybe 6 bolts, but there was actually a total of 10!! Eight of them are 7/16 bolts. The other 2 are the front two rivets in the scoop. They aren't actually rivets, they're screws that have the same head as the other rivets. You'll need an allen key and a 5/16 nut driver to get them off. I numbered the bolt holes in a few of the pics. Took me about 1/2 hour by myself to take it off.

Also what's holding the front grill on the scoop is it easy to remove ??? If, I can hook an acuator to the grill and put it on pins to open and close it on demand the would be cool thing for the engine.
07SGT0547
Tek, Way back when I picked up my SGT in 2007, I went thru the exact same "experience" trying to get my ver 1.0 scoop to sit and fit correctly... Anyhow, after many, many tries and even a replacement sent directly from SAI (won't happen now), it never would "sit" correctly on the hood... About a year later, I went ahead and purchased enough longer screws (same length as the 2 front corners) and drilled and tapped out the hood for all of them to screw into... $15 Hood Scoop Fix Just have to make sure you alternate (depends on your scoop and the warpage) sides as to which screw to tighten down when... Kind of like torquing down a cylinder head, but on a much lighter scale... But you will be able to remove most (85-90%) of the ups and downs in the OEM hood scoop :happy feet: But I would highly recommend having a helper or take off the hood when you go to re-install the scoop... Either that, or have an arm span like an NBA player... My arms weren't really long enough to hold the scoop in place and reach back under the sheet metal to start the nuts on the 4 mounting posts... So while it took me 30 mins to get it off, it was about 90 mins to get it back on Good Luck! 07SGT0547

I didn't really pay close attention to it when I had the scoop off.

SGT/SC2873
Thank you I removed the two nuts and the grille then took a small die grinder w/ cutoff wheel to trim the backing plate for the grille. I finished it w/ a dremmel tool then had shop smooth/sand/paint bottom. I wanted it to look finished underneath since I cut the hole in the hood to let heat escape. Just like the hood pins, if you have high moisture or humidity, you'll get galvanic corrosion.

However, I used the exact same screws (all around) as the 2 originals on the front corners (as installed by SAI) of the ver 1.0 scoop... Maybe another reason they switched to aluminum pop-rivets

Racer, Don't even think about this with the standard soft plastic scoop, the result would be disasterous. Even without a hole in the hood the stock scoop warps from heat/cold temperature changes. Engine heat rising after shutdown directly onto that soft plastic through an open hole in your hood would make a bad situation worse. The latest (4th I think) generation Shelby scoop is rigid material that might handle the heat. I have not seen one of these myself so I san't say for sure. The Heath Scoop is made to handle the heat with the hood cut out but it is not a free warranty replacement like the Shelby scoop. Read the "Absolute Hood Scoop Final Fix" thread for all the information you need. Here's some photos of my open Heath Scoop. All the best. Chip Once I quit spending $$$ on my brakes and going to the track, this is NEXT on my wish list... And most definitely the way to do it, and do it right... Especially with the cut-out under the scoop :happy feet: Gregg 07SGT0547
SHELBYBRO
So our hoods were meant to have a functional hood scoop? But they didn't make it functional?
