motorjock205
Took a little day trip yesterday from Odessa to Marfa. Wife had taken her art class to the Chinati Foundation for a field trip and I was sitting around the house bored with looking for a new job, so I decided to drive down to Marfa to join them. I left Odessa around 12PM and arrived in Marfa at 2:10PM...according to Yahoo Maps it is a 2:47 minute drive, so I shaved about 37 minutes off of the drive. I loved the road between Fort Davis and Marfa as it turns into a twisty with uphill and downhill curves that the SGT just loved and handled great! After spending the afternoon with my wife and her kids, we headed back in the SGT, and had a nice cruise home. Trip was a hair over 400 miles and averaged 25.2 MPG even with hitting tripple digits quite often along the way. Also got a lot of compliments on the SGT as well as thumbs up from several people, so that always makes a little day trip even that more enjoyable. The MPG on the trip still leaves me wondering just WHY I had to pay a gas guzzler tax on this car though...
HORSBYT
The MPG on the trip still leaves me wondering just WHY I had to pay a gas guzzler tax on this car though... Because of "how" it's tested: Quote: Beginning with 2008 models, all fuel economy estimates based on new test methods, which EPA finalized in December 2006. The new methods better account for actual driving conditions that can lower fuel economy, such as high speed, aggressive driving, use of air conditioning, and cold temperature operation. The new estimates will give drivers a more accurate estimate of the fuel economy they are likely to achieve on the road. Because of the new methods, the estimates for most 2008 models will be lower than their 2007 counterparts. To aid consumers shopping for new cars, EPA has also redesigned the fuel economy window sticker posted on all new cars and light trucks to be easier to read and understand. I also found this doc which says for 2008 the Ford Mustang with the 5.4 liter qualifies for the gas guzzler tax, but no mention of the 4.6? EPA.GOV Not to hijack your thread with red-tape! Sounds like you had a great day and a NICE break from the job hunt! Best of luck to you! 420b08018.pdf 420b08018.pdf

shelbytexan
Nothing like wide open spaces to run your Shelby. You can't find a job staying in the Shelby lol. Driving mine does kinda help me to relax and think about the good old days when muscle cars were a dime a dozen. Good luck Carl on finding a good job.
