GT500KR muffler Prices?

Hi Guys,

Can you all please provide some insight as to the KR Mufflers Ford part # M-5230 that are on the Shelby GT500KR. Are they worth installing on a regular GT-500. Does it do anything to increase performance. I cannot afford a KR so I am doing my best to duplicate the KR performance with the added 40HP with the calibration tool from Ford, the 3.73 gears, the mufflers, Ford Open Air Filter, Ford Short Shifter Kit with that white ball as it reminds me of the 60's cars etc. on my 2008 GT500. If I were to purchase these mufflers, where can I purchase them for a good price plus shipping.

All of your inputs of course is greatly appreciated. I had listen to the sound difference between a stock GT500 and with the GT500KR in comparison and by far the KR mufflers sounded more aggressive and a little louder. Any drone noise from these mufflers as I like the sound but do not want that much of an intrusion on the top end especially on long freeway driving.

Aloha - Bill

When yours come, you need to clean the rusty looking welding residue off the flat areas. Use some windex, then some metal polish.

Here's mine after I cleaned them up. I will be putting them on tomorrow and doing a install thread / sound clip.

Then to make it sound like a true KR, I will be cutting out the X pipe

.....and installing the H-pipe next week when it arrives

The H-pipe wakes up the KR mufflers and gives it the unique sound just like the KR.

I saw that add. It does not include shipping. They want another $47 bucks to ship them.

For some reason the KR's are catching my eye too. Grabber, thanks for putting it all together! I'll definitely consider an H-pipe as well. Good stuff. How much for the H-pipe and who makes it?

Conact Wes at Powerhouse Racing Performance. I have one that is going to go on hopefully today. The KR mufflers are a great addition. There is NO DRONE at all and when you put the petal to the metal, they just sound awesome. You can't go wrong with these mufflers.

Bill,

I installed the KR's last week. They are perfect for the car. First drive they seemed a bit loud compaired to the stock mufflers but ever since the first drive I love them. VaperDude is correct no drone and at 1800-2000RPM they are pretty quiet. But put your foot in it and they really wake up. Grabber is correct there is a lot of welding slag that needs to be cleaned off. I just used mag polish and they cleaned up really nice. Install was easy just remove the hangers and slide the KR's in place. Was harder getting old mufflers off than getting KR's on. They lined up very well and did not need to make any adjustments.

Ditto here on adjustments. Just hang em and sit back and admire. When you have the car in the garage, stand behind the car and let someone else do a cold startup. That is the fastest way to get a smile on your face.

Mike, Thanks for your input. I appreciate all of the inputs regarding my inquiry on the KR Mufflers. Did you also change over to the H pipe as well. I wonder if changing over to the H-pipe will make all that much difference. I suppose that there must of been a good reason for Ford to do this on the GT500KR. What is your opinion?

I did this and I couldn't stop giggling! I don't know exactly why, but this has to be one of the best sounding cold start cars ever!

Bill,

From what I understand the h-pipe gives a bit deeper exhaust note than the stock x-pipe. I've also heard the h-pipe will cause about a 4hp loss. I left the factory x-pipe and do not plan to change to the h-pipe. Either way the KR muffler is the way to go.

Hope that helps, FIA Mike

Ordered mine last Saturday from Buy Ford Racing, http://www.buyfordracing.com/shop/index.php

Received them on Tuesday already, installed them this morning. All I can say is the smile on my face tells it all.

"GT500 Special Mufflers" are them, they're $499 plus shipping, which I think was $33 I believe.

That's about the cheapest I found.
