traction control question

Ok, kind of dumb question, but seems when I read the book it said there was a light on the dash or something that would tell you the tc system was off. On my car the only light is on the button and says off.

It seems I can break the car loose whether it is on or off, so just wondering if it even does anything. What are you guys experiencing?

Thanks

Paul

Oh, ordered a stage 2 and kr exhaust, have not even plated the car yet, sign of a true disease....lol

The only light is on the button. Ford programmed the TC so we could have brisk take offs without fully engaging the unit. Some members like to drive without it but it has saved my butt a few times in cold or wet weather while in turns. It does work.

Thanks for the info, I have pitched it sideways with the tc on, so just wanted to check. I figured it was probably programmed softer, then most vehicles.

I am finally getting to drive it a little, the weather has just broke out of the almost daily snow we had since I bought it.

I think it's a good idea to learn to drive the car with and without the TC on, just do it in an open area without too many ditches pedestrians light poles and cars. And don't try to learn all in one go. It will leave anybody with a tight balloon knot on occasion.

It can get away from you fast.

This car will brake it lose when ever you want but if you leave the TC on then you will need back brakes soon. The TC apply the brakes to the wheel that is spinning and there is to much HP for the brakes to stop the wheel.

+1 on the rear brakes... Especially if you take your car to the track (road course) on a regular basis... While it will "help" you from skidding thru the slow-speed corners... I did notice that the OEM Stock rear pads were worn 2x more than the front ones... So now that I have some "expereince" with tracking my SGT, I make sure that I turn the TCS off when I'm sitting in the staging grid :shift:

I did the mistake of popping the clutch with the t/c on one day (not thinking), intending to leave some "birth" marks on the pavement... well it kind of did, but took off more, really. I took the t/c off and it just SPUN. It was great :-)

This car is frighteningly fast and has a traction control under ideal conditions, turn the TC off and it's terrifying......and I LOVE it! A couple of evenings, I turned the TC off and let it go.....woo, I got a lot of remedial "Drive it with your right foot" classes to take!

Have fun, but, hey, let's be careful out there!

In vegas for the 86th bash we got to drive on LVMS road course. I went a couple of laps with the t/c on and then thought I would turn it off. First turn after that I nailed it coming out and car went sideways WAY quick. Let off a little and when car started to straighten I nailed it again and it went straight. Was a learning experience for sure. I was a little more careful after that, but left it off for the rest of the session.

My traction control never seemed to work very well, and since I put on the CAI/tune it appears to be almost worthless. :redcard:

I thought about taking it in so the dealer can check it out, but that would be telling their mechanics to go out and try to do burn outs in my baby.

Spinning the tires in third gear at 50 mph on the highway in the rain when I accelerate into traffic is a bit nerve racking, however. :sos:

I also think that when I get around to upgrading the suspension to get rid of the wheel hop that I'll have less tire spin. :shift:

Yup gotta be careful in the rain no matter what... I was heading back from work this morning on dry roads coming onto the freeway from an on ramp. There was water on the road looked like it dumped out of the back of a truck bed or something. Same thing - third, slower though, and the rear gave a little "hello".
