Shelby N.Y.
I finally got to take my newly supercharged beast out today for a leisurely Sunday drive, when I notice a Gentleman and his lady friend in a black Porsche carrera s cabrio attempting to pass me in the right hand lane. Well I wouldn't have known what kind of 911 it was, but I did get to read it off the rear of his car for a second, so I then decided since he was kind enough to teach me some German, I would give him an English lesson he would soon not forget, I then applied a liberal amount of throttle and let him read the Shelby lettering on my trunk. The gentleman then decided he did not care for my shenanigans and tried to recover from the mistake he had made in believing his motor carriage was superior to mine. Well surely you jest sir!! He did stay rather close behind me in his effort to regain his manhood in font of said lady friend, but I would say that tonight he "didn't get any" and is probably wondering why he spent $90,000+ on a convertible beetle and got beat by a good old American Mustang. Boy, what a beautiful day for a drive. In all honestly I thought I had bit off more than I could chew, but that Whipple just kicked in and did it's job very well. I would say to anyone that is considering upgrading to a GT/SC, do it, you will not be disappointed

goumoun
is a Carrera S Cabriolet fast? Yes it is... we won't be able to follow it on a windy road. Handling and braking are superior. But nothing beats cubic inches in straight line. Youpees are not always good driver also, even more with girl friend in the passenger seat. NordicShelby
Great story. Back in 1998 I had a different 455 engine in my olds and a Carrera came up next to me so I thought I would do the same as you did and by the time we hit 120 I snapped a connecting rod. I vowed I would get my revenge on a Porsce, so now that I am getting the GT supercharged I will have to find a Carrera to chew up.
GR40Freak
To answer your question.. No. Compared to your car the Carrera S would never stand a chance in a straight line. They're not very fast in the corners either compared to our cars. Either are M3's (new or old), or olders Porsches, or Minis, or Camaros, or or or... :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEgFX2yabow Colin Sebern Griggs Racing

GR40Freak
I can't wait to get some real power in it. 500RWHP coming... Then those damn Z06s, 911 Turbos, and F430s won't walk away in the straights anymore, getting tired of that. William Rodgers
Great story indeed, I am actually a prior Porsche 911 owner. I still love Porsches and would more than likely have one as a Daily Driver if I did not live in New England. If it was a new Carrera S then it is really fast, congrats on the kill. GR40Freak
I should admit I had a 92 RS America and a 98 Carrera 2S. I loved them. Excellent daily drivers.

Understood, but it does make it a better handling (and in many respects safer) car.

drswiger
I have had a Carrera S and I can tell you, on a straight hwy. you are fine, but a road course with some turns, you can kiss your ass goodbye. I like my GT500, but how it performs is very dependent on where you happen to be driving.

GR40Freak
My best in that car is 1:55 and like I said I'm a novice at best to both the car and the track. Bruce and Guy can easily do 1:48s in the GR40TT. That is running the Infineon "Sports Car" course with short turn 7 Colin Sebern Griggs Racing

If that was you driving in that video, then you are no novice driver though Nice driving. Anyway, that is an excellent lap time for the power to weight ratio of your car!
