AFBLUE
Many SGT owners have expressed a desire for upgraded brakes and still keep 18" sized wheels. I thought it would be nice to have a single thread where folks can post info about the current 18" choices for larger/better brake systems. 07SGT4578 posted that the Shelby CS69 18x9.5 wheels work with BAER 6 PISTON BRAKES http://www.teamshelby.com/forums/index.php...st&p=676122 And we know the GT 500 18x9.5 wheels work with the bigger GT500 brakes and the 18" S1 brakes also fit the GT 500 brakes and Shelby's 6 piston brakes (see post#3) What other 18" wheel choices are there out there? Post info and pix. If it becomes a popular thread we can make it a sticky.
08SGT1977
I agree 100%. Every time I look at the car I love the stance and look of the stock rims. Still want to S/C but determine a way to upgrade the brakes but still keep the current rims, look and stance.
AFBLUE
I wasn't meaning to keep the stock 18" wheels but rather 18" wheels that work with bigger/better brake systems such as these: CS69 18x9.5 Shelby Type S1 18x9 wheels with Shelby pro 6 piston brakes http://www.teamshelby.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=38871 GT500 wheels work with GT 500 Brembo 14" front rotors and 4 piston calipers. Do they work with any 6 piston brakes? Other 18" wheel choices out there for upgraded brakes?
NordicShelby
whoevers car that is that has the CS69 wheels it needs a bath. I bought the CS69 wheels at the bash so I'm good to go when I upgrade the brakes.

Dig-It
Who's SGT/SC is that with the GT500 rims and AP Racing 6 pistons? AP Racing makes: - a 13" rotor 4-piston caliper for the Mustang GT - a 14" rotor 4-piston caliper for the GT500 - a 14.25" rotor 6-piston caliper for the GT500 - an assortment of 13" and 14" 4 and 6-piston calipers for euro spec Fords (including a 13" 6-piston caliper for the euro spec Focus RS) Number of pistons doesn't matter as much as the swept area (contact patch area between the pad and rotor). That's clark17357' car. "AP Racing brakes (6-pot front, 4-pot rear)" I'm guessing "6-pot" is 6 piston. Here is a picture without the wheel

07SGT4578
Mark, Thanx for starting this. Just so every one knows. ALL 18" wheels manufactured by The Shelby Wheel Company will work with ANY of the Shelby/Baer kits. (GT-Plus, Pro-Plus, and Extreme.) clark17357
Thanks Mark. Did he ever mention how far off were the stock rims with these brakes? I never even measured. The stock rims had little room with the stock brakes. Believe me, I tried to get someone to lie to me that they (the stock rims) would fit over the big brakes but I could not even get that. When I saw the brakes on another Mustang at Stillen, it was obvious there was no way they would fit the stock wheels. If someone would build an 18" stock wheel that would clear the big brakes, I would buy them in a heartbeat. I am old and the stock rims are what we ran back in the 60s so they have special meaning to me. And, Mark, yes, 6 pot means 6 piston. Another old fart way of describing things. AFBLUE
Mark, Thanx for starting this. Just so every one knows. ALL 18" wheels manufactured by The Shelby Wheel Company will work with ANY of the Shelby/Baer kits. (GT-Plus, Pro-Plus, and Extreme.) Chris I'm confused now. The S1 was advertized as the only 18" wheel to fit a GT 500 http://www.shelbyperformanceparts.com/Show...S1%20Wheel.aspx But I see your car in 18x9.5 handles the bigger brakes The Shelby PP site says these 18x8.5 wheels can handle the GT 500 (see chart below) http://www.shelbyperformanceparts.com/Show...66%20wheel.aspx But these 18x8.5s don't list the GT 500 http://www.shelbyperformanceparts.com/Show...67%20wheel.aspx Again I confused. What is the ground truth on which specific Shelby wheels will fit GT 500 brakes?

joey1ball
Which wheels are made by the Shelby Wheel Company? Do you mean the American Racing Shelby series (Torq-Thrust, Series 1, Razor, Redline, etc)? You can find all the wheels made by the Carroll Shelby Wheel Company here: www.carrollshelbywheels.com I know it's confusing at times but the Carroll Shelby Wheel Company is the company that Mr. Shelby owns. American Racing does have a line of Shelby wheels that Shelby Licensing licenses them to produce. Shelby is simply a sub-brand in there line up just as their Earnhart Jr line or their Boyd Coddington line. Long story short they are two completely separate entities with different wheel styles. STILLEN
Who's SGT/SC is that with the GT500 rims and AP Racing 6 pistons? AP Racing makes: - a 13" rotor 4-piston caliper for the Mustang GT - a 14" rotor 4-piston caliper for the GT500 - a 14.25" rotor 6-piston caliper for the GT500 - an assortment of 13" and 14" 4 and 6-piston calipers for euro spec Fords (including a 13" 6-piston caliper for the euro spec Focus RS) I wanted to clarify the AP Racing products available for the S197 Mustang. All of the kits fit all V8 S197s from the Mustang GT to Shelby GT to GT500. There are currently 3 AP Racing brake kits available: 14.25" rotor 6 piston caliper front 14" rotor 4 piston caliper front 13" 4 piston caliper rear Number of pistons doesn't matter as much as the swept area (contact patch area between the pad and rotor). The only reason to increase the number of pistons is to fit a larger pad and gain a larger contact patch. The reason to go to a 6 piston caliper to get a larger pad vs just building a larger 4 piston caliper is to keep the clamping load consistent. A large 4 piston caliper would have to spread the pistons further apart which would result in inconsistent clamping force. Dan
