Pulled over again!

Recommended Posts

This is the 2nd time ive been pulled over in the gt500.

1st - Suspicious Driving (wtf?) - no ticket [almost a year ago]

2nd - Excessive Acceleration (wtf?) - no ticket [other morning on the way to school]

Stupid reasons! But atleast no tickets.

Never heard of either of those offenses. But Excessive Acceleration as the cop at the light when you took off? But as young as you are cops usually write you for looking at them wrong.

Get used to it. Best thing you can do is be friendly and nice. It's all you can do. The police see a young kid in a GT500 and are HOPING to bust you on something.

Just be cool and polite. In my younger days I got harassed all the time by cops. I once got pulled over because the antenna on my car looked like one that was reported on a car used in a robbery. No joke! I was 17-18 and it was just a standard radio shack CB antenna.

At 19-20 I got pulled over in my Dodge D-50 for 72 in a 70. The cop searched my truck. I got accused of stealing the radio in my truck. I was poor so I had an old jam box wired into the factory speakers. He also pulled my kick boots (Tae-kwon-do) out from under the seat. He asked what they were for and I said to protect my feet when kicking practice bags. He then slid right up next to me staring up at me, forehead to chin because he was really short, placed his hand on his gun and asked me as masculine as possible with his eyes squinted "you gonna' try to kick me?" I was startled for a second and then burst out laughing and said "don't be redicilous". Now I keep seeing this "you gonna kick me" scenario over and over in my head and get a case of the giggles so he gets pissed tells me to slow down and leaves. I had to pick up everything off the side of the road and put it back in my truck.

Yeah man just be cool with them... I remember getting a ticket in my '91 Mustang GT back in.. well '91 :)

I'm driving through an intersection and I pass a cop who immediately snaps a u-turn and gives me a ticket for running the red light.

The light was about as green as it could get... funny thing was it was a very long light, so as he's explaining that I ran the light I ask,

"If the light was red when I went through it how are cars still driving through the intersection on the green??"

He looks over at the steady stream of cars passing by... gets pissed and says, "You trying to get smart with me BOY."

Typical Florida redneck cop with nothing better to do than screw with the kid he was probably jealous of for driving a car nicer than his.

Don't get me wrong there are plenty of good cops out there in Florida and elsewhere and I've definitely had my share of breaks from cops that were more than nice to me... when they could have given me a ticket and didn't.

But as a teen in a car like yours, you are bound to get WAY more attention than us older farts :)

Keep your cool, be polite, and just drive responsibly and you'll be fine ;)

Make that +2000. Geez...I got socks older than you. If you do get pulled over always try to be polite. The way YOU present yourself will have a huge bearing on whether or not you get a ticket along with your driving habits. And remember; a drivers license isn't a right...it's a priviledge. Be safe and mess around out of town somewhere. Just a tip from someone who's been there.

I can't believe I have not gotten any tickets lately (knock on wood). I think I get a pass for being middle aged, military and having bronze star license plates. I have had cops and troopers come up on me fast from behind only to take off and leave me behind.

I agree with the sound advice of being polite and courteous if you have been pulled over.

I have 10 year old T-shirts, but you have 27 year old socks. That's why you get out of tickets. The officer can't stand being at the window. LOL

Touche'!! Actually I was referring to the young gentleman that started this thread. He looks VERY young. Like you stated; A magnet for police

Actually my father was in law enforcement. I learned alot from him. I've never been pulled over in the Shelby but I've been stopped in my other vehicle. You'd be surprised at how much you can change the situation with a smile and being honest.

Yeah at his age I'd be careful for sure. Especially with friends in the car.

You deserve it! God bless and thank you for your service.

BULL$hit :slapfight:

I have the right to drive. """" BECAUSE """"" I meet the qualifications set by law. That my friend

gives me the RIGHT to drive, it is NOT a priviledge. :jackinbox: I also have the RIGHT to vote as long a I meet

the qualifications. You sound like the cop I had for a step-dad. YOU pi$$ me off with that kind of

dumb or is it dumber statements. Just give the young man advise to drive careful and do his

lead footing on the race track. Then he can have the RIGHT to drive. When you get to many

tickets - you will lose your RIGHT to drive.

Have good weekend and drive careful--there a lot of crazies out there.

Okay so it's a right. Agreed. I've seen too many people abuse that right. Hurt themselves or other people. And yes I did try to give him advice and be safe.

Sorry about upsetting you. If you had issues with your step father, please don't hold that against me or the law enforcemant community. It still is the toughest and most thankless job there is. Would you agree to that statment?

One other note. Depending on what state you live in, if your license gets suspended it states: Loss of driving priviledges. Not driving rights.

I agree with you 1000% --It,s just the 1 out of a 1000 that makes life a bitter pill to take. I was

having a bad night the other night. I do know a lot of law officers that are pretty good people and

I and wouldn't want their job with the bull they have to put up with. Hats off to them. :happy feet:

The cop thought you stole the car, at 30 I still get pulled over for B.S. like my exhaust being too loud, one cop as insisting that I had "gutted my cat" on my slp loudmouths. On the weekends I dress like a person my age in jeans and hoodies, and sunglasses. I look like am a 22, usually when a cop pulls me over and sees some of the gray in my hair and talks to me they "let" me go. It is easier just to placate them with the "yes sir" "no sir" routine. Just don't let them lean on your car while talking to you. They are also most likely pissed that at your age that you have the car you do.

Do you have tinted windows? If you do then its more likely your driving than your looks IMO. Cops have a job to do and their job sucks a lot of the time but they do it anyway (thank you all). If you live in a city that offers ride alongs I suggest you take one.

I can drive a GT500 all over the place and never get a second look from most police, but if I am driving in an area known for street racing, on a weekend I am going to get stoped 10 times. Where you drive, when you drive and how you drive play a part in why you get stoped. As you get older you become better at "noticing" police and being more careful. You might even develop a "sense" about when to play and when not to. Can't tell you how many times I have not felt right about playing and there was a cop at the next intersection or parking lot.

I get second looks all the time but it is usually with a wave and or a tip of a hat from the police, it's a GT500. I did get pulled over the other day but that was in a rental car with out of state plates and they just scream 'easy money' The local cop said I ran a stop sign I told him 'bullshit' he pulled me over because he thought I was from out of town and was an easy target for his speed trap. He didn't say much, thought he was gunna get me anyway with a state troopers ticket book (fairly hard to get fixed).

I took it to a friend of mine told him the details and no more ticket. There are good cops and there are dope dealing cops in that town. Had a local cop we know wanting to buy a motorcycle of mine and while I was offshore he came by the house and told my wife he was going to his mechanic with it (it didn't run at the time) to have it checked out. She said sure. He sold it for cocaine. Nothing I could do about it. Some police turn rotten because they only deal with rotten and it screws them up I guess.

Small town big problems.

Hell they pulled over Willy Nelson and his Yellow Rose bus, tore the bus apart and found some weed, listened to Willy's joke telling for a few hours and then let them go on down the road with a ticket. You never know but being polite usually doesn't hurt.

Not to :stirpot: or anything....but age and profiling don't necessarily go hand in hand, even with one of these cars.

I got mine at 28, in Aug. of 2006. Didn't get my first ticket until October of 2007 for doing 72 in a 40 (right where the speed changes at the end of a highway).

Fought it at court, assisted the court (interpreted for a spanish speaking client) and the ticket got dismissed because it was a "speed-trap".

Now, I drive mine all the time, and am not too careful about burnouts, etc. I've never been harassed or bothered with BS stops in the Shelby.

My taurus is a different story all together. I was getting stopped about every other month for one thing or another on the Taurus. So much so that I started taking the Shelby to work.

All in all, cops won't profile (purposefully) b/c they know that you can beat the rap at court by making that argument to the jury.

But, Florida cops might be different. Just my .02

All good points, I really depends on the mentality, morale, and leadership of each department. Big city cops usually have much better things to do then pull someone over for having tinted windows. My view of cops has done a complete 180 since I moved from Denver to a small suburb, the police where I am are a very odd bunch, there is one stretch of road in particular where I see someone pulled over every other day, maybe I live in a town of crooks and speed demons but I doubt it. It does suck that we all have to “stay under the radar” and “keep our heads down” to avoid harassment. As one generation’s influence begins to fade, and another takes it place, it should be interesting to see how society in general changes and how law enforcement in particular is affected.

All i know is that when i have my cruise cntrl on at the speed limit and i get followed and am doing nohting, then the cops stop like they are turning but they are blowin me up with radar (radar detector) then as soo as i get out of sight, they speed by lookin around, I know i am getting profiled. That entire scenario has happened to me on a regualr basis. I noticed the cops doin it one day and so as soon as i was out of eye shot i pulled down a street got out of my car and watched and sure as shit the cop was speedin by lookin for me. I know he was lookin for me cuz as he was passin by he was searchin all around and when he and I caught eyes he just stared and slowed down lookin at me. Then he rolled. I am fed up with it but im not gonna stop drivin my car. Im not even sayin its cuz im young. I think its just hte car all togethter. But owell haters will hate! People just gotta realize that bein young doesnt help.
