Would you trade the GT in for an 03-04 COBRA?

Thoughts and opinions please..... I love my Shelby, I really do, but lately I have been really looking at the terminators again.

There is an 03 Redfire, convertible all stock with 3,000 miles that I am looking at. I have done so much to my car to the point that I can't do anymore. I could change the block out and have way more than any termy or GT500 can put out, but it's not really the same.

The terminators are just so damn aggressive looking, which is what I really love about them.

There is alot to consider. This is something that I have just been pondering, back and forth. Probably going to keep my GT, probably, but wanted to hear some of your thoughts.

Personally, I would not do it. For one thing, those older Mustangs don't have enough legroom for me. Secondly, you've put an awful lot of time and $$$ in your Shelby GT which you would never recover; you should keep it much longer and get the full life out of it and enjoy it. I think the Shelby GT looks better than those older Mustangs also. Lastly, you have a Shelby!!! The so-called "Terminator" is cool, but not a Shelby.

I like the cobras also, but would't trade my SGT for one.

But that's just me.

This guy wants my car BAD! 1 because it 's performance white and 2 because it's automatic and I am sure my list of mods come into play as well. I know and feel it in my gut that I shouldn't do it. I know I will regret it..... I know my car looks and is bad azz. Just was always in aw of the Cobra terminators. Guy sent me an email after I sent him pics of my car lastnight and asked me to bring my car down to VA for the trade. Told him that I would want an extra 5K for a new blower, but deep down the more I think about it, the more I think I shouldn't do it. I can put 5K into my GT and get a livernois block and eat everything on the road if I want to....

Save the $5k and put it toward buying his Cobra outright from him, then have both cars.

If it was me that guy would have to give me his car and about $20k to make the deal on a SGT (not a GT/SC) vs. the Cobra. If he did that heck he could have it then turn around and buy yourself another SGT. Second he would come to me, not me to him.

Dont do it! The old chassis robs you of all the grunt of the Cobra's beefy engine, and the amount of money you will spend trying to get it to handle on a par with your Shelby will be money wasted.

Either buy a Terminator outright, or throw an aluminator GT500 engine in your Shelby GT. (This coming from a guy who went from Roush, to Terminator, to GT500).

I agree as well with all the comments above Torrence. I think you also knew you'd get these kind of responses from all us die hards. Therefore your personal struggle and gut tells you to keep the SGT and you're just looking for reassurance. You're part of our family. That's not to say that if you go with the Terminator that will end, but you'll focus on the Terminator forums and visit us infrequently.

The Terminators are awesome cars too and deserve total respect. But remember, when you're at the shows or track, you'll get different reaction and respect then with the Shelby.

When I was reading your first post I was thinking it was as if you were telling your girlfriend you were breaking up with her. I was waiting to read the sentence "Its not you, it's me.". LOL.

In the end you'll make the right decision. Give yourself a week to think about it more. Don't jump on this. Tell the guy you'll call back in a few days. He'll wait.

Those old Stangs don't even look like a Mustang from the 60s era unlike the new body in 05. I had a 67GT Fastback for 17 years and recently sold it to a guy in France and got my Shelby. After many years, many repairs etc it was time to move on. Made a good penny on it too. Had the new body style not came out not sure I would have made the move. The Shelby now with all the luxury, Whipple, looks and handling, what more could you ask for and it resembles an older Stang. It took me a while to warm up to a new Mustang also, but at least it looks like one and now is one mean Stang. The Cobras were ok but I looked at one before buying my Vette and they just were not all that too me and with a S/C on it the power should have been far higher than it was. I don't like that Mystic paint either. That's just me but it took me 17 years to make a change and now I'm sure I will log many more years into this Shelby. Just my 2c.

Ok... Got Cobra happy. I will probably drop a built block in it, in a couple years or if the engine goes... Which ever comes first. Thanks guys and I knew in my gut this wouldn't be right. I know our cars are special and they look killer. I've got that car looking amazing, I actually can't believe all I have done to it. I'm keeping her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe your decision was made and then you asked on a GT forum.....what did you expect? Sounds like you're madly in love with the Term and with only 3000 miles.......wow. Follow your gut. Forget the 'shelby' name, you'll be dead and gone to see back some profit and you heavily modified yours so that's out the window.

Na.... I actually posted on SVTP as well and they all said don't make the deal... I would love to have that termi, but not at the cost of cheating myself. I have put way to much into this car and at the right price, maybe I would have made the deal, but I don't anyone would give me the right price due to our economy. I'm not worried about profit, I didn't buy it for that. I bought it for the body style and the Shelby name. Who didn't fall in love with one after we all saw the Eleanor Mustang in Gone in 60 seconds... I knew after I saw that movie I wanted a Shelby. If the dealers hadn't screwed everyone when the GT500's 1st came out, I would have had one of those. I like what I have, but I just want more power. So I will buy a block eventually. The termi's are hot though.... Damn they look so aggressive, maybe down the line I will buy one and not be in a trade situation. Besides I was looking for Mystichrome anyway! :shades:

Besides, who would want to part with this baby!
