S/C Drama comes to an end for 1449.

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I think the drama of 1449 and the S/C modification is over—29 days after leaving Tasca. It has been a crazy month since then. My wife really wants to kill me now, she has had to put up with me constantly complaining and worrying about this. 08SGT1234 and Dig-it thanks for being there to listen and for the outside advice. Thanks to BWR for being so meticulous and to Eric for dealing with my constant phone calls and questions. Tasca provided answers and great customer service over the phone and internet after the sale and install, it is just hard being 600 miles away. Dennis backs his work fully and made sure all my concerns were addressed. Kudos to Tasca for the support and customer service after the sale.

Dustin Whipple and his crew worked for me on this and Dustin responded rapidly to all my questions and concerns. He had his crew pay for Fedex to ship my PCM back to them twice and reflash it. I got my PCM back today and went for a final dyno (at least that is what I told myself prior to going). Lo and behold it worked: 475 RWHP (SAE). Timing was 19.5.

A few of you know everything that happened and I will leave it at that.

My advice (I am giving it whether you want it or not), do not leave the mod shop without a dyno. I don’t care if SAI does not dyno the car, don’t leave Las Vegas when you pick it up until you dyno the car. Once you are home it becomes much harder to correct any issues.

The question has been out there of “what happens if I install one of these at a mod shop and something goes wrong; am I on my own?” This was not the case. Tasca and Whipple stepped up and made sure things were taken care of.

hi hardluck,

i just pm you for some advice.

thanks scotty

Replied.

I forgot to mention (most of you probably know this but I learned it over the past month)

Our engines and computers will pull timing if there is something going wrong in your car. The car will try and prevent damage from occuring. You can reset the PCM by disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 2-3 minutes and then I was also told the PCM holds some energy so prior to doing this put the headlights in the on position to help drain all the energy, this should reset your timing if you were having issues.

Craig,

Yes much better. It is crazy what a Ford Focus Hybrid Tune does to a Shelby GT :banghead:

Holy S, I am not sure I even want to know how that happened, I am just glad everyone pulled together and got it worked out for you. Now please get out there and drive your car, because I haven't got to drive mine since I brought it home and it is driving me nuts

First off you are exactly correct a total test of the installed system should be done so you know when the car leaves it's right. Now I'm not bashing anyone, however a quality install no matter where should have been done right the first time and again verified by what ever means available before that car gets handed over to the owner. When I pay thousands for an upgrade I don't want to hear any excuse. With that said at least your shop gave assistance to you because many out there would not have. That's why mine went where it did vice the local places in Jacksonville. My car went to Tampa Bay Shelby in an enclosed trailer and when it came back it was 100% perfect, tested and tried and no issues. As a matter of fact they took meticulous time making the install better than what the basic kit / instructions have and a clean install looking like factory from the gages to the S/C. Whipple has always provided me good service as well. Guess the moral of the story for others out there is choose wisely and you get what you pay for. :lurk: :happy feet:

Working with one of the guys here on the forum -to be nameless unless he steps up--but a dyno in Vegas is at Leading Edge Performance

"they will be able to do some dyno pulls for me. their number if you or anybody else needs them is

702-375-4999 and Garth handles the dyno"

Again, if I was going to SAI I would not leave that town unless I had done a dyno in the area.
