Cloned 87 GLHS for sale on craigslist

Recommended Posts

The guy is honest about admitting that he switched all the parts from #503 to this car, but it isn't even and 87 body, it's an 86, and the sale is listed as an 87 GLHS.

Wow that car definitely deserves a yellow warning flag. The most disturbing part is the title and the first line of the ad:

This car is my 1987 Shelby GLHS, production number 503 of 1000.

I don't think so. Your car at best is a 1986 Dodge Shelby Charger with some additional parts from a scrapped 1987 Shelby GLHS.

My biggest concern is that he is not clear on the vin number. I've read his ad several times and it's hard to say what vin number this 1986 Dodge Shelby Charger has. Its original vin from Chrysler or has the vin from the GLHS been swapped over?

Thanks Barry for the heads up. I'll be sure it gets noted for the registry.

Steve

This car is my 1987 Shelby GLHS, production number 503 of 1000. For those familiar with the 1987 GLHS this car may look different, that is because the original chassis suffered damage to the B pillar in an accident and was not able to be repaired to my liking. I am a professional mechanic and decided to purchase another chassis to swap all parts from the original car into. The chassis you see is a 1986 Shelby Charger. ALL original GLHS specific parts have been swapped into this chassis. These parts include: engine, transmission, ecu, wiring harness, steering rack, gauge cluster, steering wheel, shifter and all suspension components. The chassis swap was completed approximately 8 years ago and the car is solid and runs very well. There are no problems or "gremlins" with vehicle I just want to have full disclosure with the new owner of this vehicle and I will happily answer any questions that you have. Essentially this car is everything that a 1987 GLHS is but it just happens to be in a 1986 Shelby Charger chassis. If you are unfamiliar with the 1987 GLHS please google it and you will see that this is an actual car built by the legendary Carroll Shelby.

I primarily used this car for autocross, road racing and leisurely drives in nice weather. In the almost 10 years that I've owned this car it has always been garaged and never driven in the winter. I have put approximately 7000 miles on it since I purchased it and it has 109,000 miles on the odometer. I have upgraded and modified this car significantly over the years I will list as many modifications as I can remember. I had a great time owning this car and it will be a nice project car for someone else, but with starting a family I don't have the time for this anymore. The car runs and drives well and passes emissions with no problems. Please contact me with any questions.
