jp1gt
I followed the threads about the hood pin problems, but there was no conclusion. I was helped quite a bit by others that had side scoop problems. This is why I am concerned about the hood pin paint situation. There seems to be a lot of damage caused by not doing a seemingly easy fix. I guess Shelby changed from steel to aluminum on the 08's, mine is an 08 with aluminum bezel and stainless steel screws. This may be a cost factor rather than trying to fix a problem. Aluminum screws seem to be the safest method, as the rivets could pull on the holes in the hood. I am not a body shop expert, so anyone have any input?

They will remove the corrosion, prep, prime.paint and restripe the hood. I will need to get with them and have them use aluminum screws when they go to remount the billet plates. It seems that getting the screws NOT in bulk was a problem. If anyone knows where to get the screws in small numbers let us know. Otherwise, if someone buys 100, I would pay for shipping and their trouble.

They don't cost that much and you'll have some extras because aluminum tends to gall if you're not careful. I had the '07 pins and I think those screws were larger than the screws that came with the billet hood pin set. You may need #6 screws if you have and '08 SGT. I also had to ground down the head diameters of the #8 screws to fit inside the billet plate counterbored holes. Aluminum screws and aluminum plates are a must. I think the stainless pins will be OK because, if adjusted right, only the ring pin will actually come in contact with the billet plate, which is anodized. So there will be no stainless directly in contact with the hood!

blueshawk
Home Depot or Lowe's will carry the screws, should be able to buy them individually. Chris I tried Lowe's in town and at several others and they didn't have #8 aluminum screws. The only ones they had were #10 and they were painted white for use with aluminum gutters. McFeely's has the "square" hole heads and they will work much better than a phillips in aluminum. I've searched and search all over the net and McFeely and McMaster-Carr are the only #8 aluminum sheet metal screws I could find. You can get a qty of only 25 "phillips head" screws from McMaster-Carr if you want smaller quantity. Hey, I figure $20 for screws and driver bits is peanuts when I've invested $40K plus all the extra Shelby stuff I bought.
JeffIsHereToo
Didn't we cover the same ground in the other thread? The bezel has nothing to do with any issues as it doesn't make contact with the exposed areas of the hood and even has a rubber gasket between it an the hood. The likely suspect in this, if there is one, has been pointed out to be the screws and in the thread below has advice of other options given again here. http://www.teamshelby.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=34372 The bigger question is why do we need to create a new thread, within view of the old thread, every time there is a hood pin issue? Have at long last hood pins become the new "Hood Scoop" rant? It's also really not fair to others that have posted possible answers to make them post again here. If you have other issues you can address them in the other thread. By at least trying to keep things to a single thread we can all preserve the learned knowledge and keep it current and easy to find in a search request, so in the end the thread you save may be your own! THANKS! Please post follow-ups to the thread above. Thanks!
