Shelby Autos Ramps Up Production of Super Snakes and Terlingua Racing Team Cars in Las Vegas

Team Shelby – With the production of Ford Shelby GT500KR’s finished, Shelby Automobiles, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc., (CSBI.PK) has ramped up production of the Super Snake GT500 and Terlingua Racing Team V6 Ford Mustang post title packages in Las Vegas. The switch to production of the post title packages for 2005 – 2009 Ford Mustangs and Shelby GT500’s will allow Shelby Automobiles to deliver up to 50 cars per week beginning April 6, 2009.

“Finishing production of the 2009 Shelby GT500KR will allow us to move the Super Snake and Terlingua Racing Team programs into the fast lane,” said Amy Boylan, president of Shelby Automobiles. “Enthusiasts are contacting us daily to snag one of these limited edition packages that give their cars the performance that only Shelby can deliver.”

The Super Snake post-title package significantly enhances the Ford Shelby GT500’s handling, styling and power. Customers bring their 2005-2009 GT500 to the factory and choose from engine tuning options range including a warranted 605 HP V8 to over 725 HP (unwarranted). Only 1,000 total Super Snakes per model year will be built; each car receives a Shelby serial number and is documented in the official factory registry.

“We’ve added new assembly lines and trained the KR production team to build Super Snakes and Terlingua Racing Team cars,” added Gary Davis, vice president of production. “By bringing to bear all of our resources on these programs, we expect deliveries to dramatically accelerate.”

The Terlingua Racing Team package for the V6 Mustang includes serious performance enhancements and striking visual cues. The hot rod features significant improvements to the handling and braking capabilities. Two packages are available with power up to 350 horsepower that offer balanced performance at a great value.

“From the powerful Shelby GT500 Super Snake to the nimble V6 Terlingua Racing Team Shelby, our post title packages offer big bang for their buck,” added Boylan. “With great power-to-weight ratio and superior handling, we build Shelbys that offer the ultimate in balanced performance. And we’re working with select Ford dealers nationwide who will locate a car for a customer, help them purchase it and then facilitate application of the Shelby post title package.”

Anyone interested in the Super Snake or Terlingua Racing Team packages can contact the Shelby Automobiles sales department at (702) 942-7325 or visit http://www.shelbyautos.com/vehicles.asp

Wonder if this is why Quantum and Tasca can't seem to get Terlingua parts? :glare:

Not at all. Here's why the Terlingua is now able to be built in Las Vegas.

After the KR program ended, SAI moved into yet another building because they were already strained from a production stand point. Thus, there are now four different assembly areas. These were then allocated for the four main programs:

1. Shelby GT. This includes the GT/SC, GT-R, etc.

2. Shelby GT500. This includes the 40th, SuperSnake and others.

3. Terlingua.

4. Cobra.

Prior to this, there just was not enough capacity to take on another build program.

Just a little tidbit: The two main Shelby warehouse buildings are already packed with Shelby GTs and GT500s waiting for whatever program the customer has requested. With the Terlingua coming online, SAI might have to obtain another warehouse because they are running out of storage space.

Don't you think if they did work in a timely fashion they wouldn't have all those cars just sitting around doing nothing?

That's a good question.

1. Most people are surprised to learn during the tour that Shelby employs about 140 people total. That's it. This includes management, build teams, R & D, engineering, sales, shipping + receiving, warehouse, I.T., communications, Cafe, etc. Most people envision SAI to be this huge sprawling operation, but it never was. Take a look at the 1960s operations and the same holds true. Shelby has always been a niche manufacturer. . .production numbers don't lie.

2. A lot of people are sending their Shelbys to SAI for mods, upgrades or builds - the demand is high, but they cannot be built that fast. The goal of Shelby was not (1960s) and is not to turn out a ton of cars. The goal is to create a limited number of Shelby Mustangs that kick ass.

People know that when the send their Shelby over for whatever reason, it will take time to create the necessary modifications. Some don't mind the wait and some do.

Not to mention the production sequence on top of that. Contacting owners to schedule delivery, delivery and QC check, placed in que for production, production, where it is moved to in the next process step, final QC and clean up and finally logistics of moving and scheduling for pick up. Several stages in the process with vehicles in every stage.
