KR Hood Lock & Release

Recommended Posts

I just received my KR yesterday and was wondering about something. (I love the car!!)

To open the hood, the manual says to first open the 2 hood pins , then to pull the interior release lever and the auxiliary latch under the hood.

My problem is that the hood seems to be only held by the 2 hood pins and ultimately by the auxiliary latch but not at all from the interior release handle mechanism as when I pull on it, it doesn't do anything.

Also when I close the hood, the center mechanism never clicks nor holds it, only the auxiliary latch and the 2 hood pins (when I lock them) are holding the hood in place...Could you tell me if it's normal or not. I suspect it might have been broken by the people importing my car by inadvertantly trying to open the hood pulling the interior release handle without unlocking the 2 hood pins first.

Thanks for any input.

Hi Gilles No its not normal, the standard hood latch should hold the hood shut also, sounds like the latch needs adjusting upwards to engage the latch, or else the latch is broken, cable not releasing to let the latch catch, spring broke in the latch, is the latch rod even bolted on the hood? maybe they forgot to put one on!

Congrats on the car!! Post pictures of your ride please!! Jon

Thanks a lot Jon. I was afraid of that. I will have to find a way to repair or change the mechanism as I'm afraid the 2 hood pins will brake as they are the only things holding the hood locked down.

After dismounting the cache, I can see that pulling the cable from the interior handle pulls and expands a small spring inside the hood located under a bigger spring but to no effect. When I close the hood and push on it, the mechanism goes down and expands a big spring coil but it doesn't seem to catch the hood latch rod (it is there) in order to lock itself in place...

Cheers,

Gilles

Sounds like an adjustment is needed ,maybe when they put the KR hood on they neglected to check & see if the latch mechanism is is working. Nice to see some pictures of your new KR.

Thank you for all your help guys. You were absolutely correct in your assumptions. I finally fixed it myself by dismounting the entire hood center lock mechanism held by two bolts and uped it 2 millimeters or so then I tightened the bolts holding it and Voila! the hood locks in place as it should.

It's a miracle that the 2 side pin locks have resisted the pressure of the central mechanism pushing the hood outwards for so long without breaking or damaging the hood itself...

Cheers!! :yahoo:

Why the differance in the tail lights, The black looks great, damn shame you have to have a front plate. Nice car congrats. BUY AMERICAN is alive and well in France, awesome

The tail lights are European specs. (yellow tuning signal...etc) I found them in the UK. It allowed me to import the car without having to drill underneath the rear in order to place ugly devices for rear fog lights and reverse.

My problem is now to find a Navteq DVD for Europe navigation that would be compatible with the in dash radio/GPS device...Haven't found one yet!

Also finding oil is a real problem. Impossible to find in Europe 5w50 Motorcraft oil that meets the Ford GT500 specs so far.
