Obama says he accepts 'imperfect' spending bill

Recommended Posts

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090311/ap_on_.../obama_spending

He says: Explaining his decision, Obama said that future earmarks must have a "legitimate and worthy public purpose",

WTH......IMHO....If an Earmark is worthy, it would not be an Earmark, it would be a Bill and stand on its own Merits. They are called "Earmarks" and tacked onto Bills because they know that NO ONE would give them a Dime towards them.

Edit 1.0

here's one that I'm surprised the "separation of church and state" chanters have not jumped all over.

I guess I must have been hearing things. I could have sworn that, during his campaign, he stated that he would not allow these sorts of earmarks, and that all of these bills would be available for public review and scrutiny, and that he would make sure that they were right before he signed them, and that he would not sign them with conditions....yet....oh well, I guess my eyes and hearing must be going bad...or....maybe Mr. Obama hasn't been anywhere close to honest?? Nah, couldn't be....

How long is he going to keep blaming Bush. He is the President now. He could have easily vetoed the bill, sent it back and told Congress to fix it i.e. remove the earmarks. That would have sent a stronger statement than saying this is old bussiness and from hear on out we will get rid of the earmarks. Just completely pisses me off. Even some Dems are not happy. A little over 50 days in office and they are comparing him to Jimmy Carter. Remember what that was like?

Since when has any politician done what he said he was going to do. They tell you what you want to hear to get elected, then once elected they do what what they damn well please. Nothing new, been going on for the last 30 years or so.

Most of them ought to be in jail, or run out of the country.

:lurk:

Was supposed to be like JFK.......thinks he's Lincoln (a sad comparison in and of itself)....but actually he is more like Carter, but worse. What a joke this guy is!!! The amount of damage he has done in 50 days is obscene, to put it mildly.

Now the Dems are already talking that we need another stimulus package. We don't even know if the first one is going to work (which it's not). Guess they have more earmarks they need to get through.

What the Dems-in-control (I say it that way because I know all Democrats are not looney) are NOT saying is that NOW we really need the REAL stimulus package. The first so-called "stimulus" package was nothing more than a boatload of earmarks and democrat wish-list items that were shoved down America's throat in order to make up for not getting their way during the Bush years, along with laying the foundation for Obama's socialist agenda, along with a tiny bit of stimulus that will take years to bear any fruit, if it ever does.

What is this guy thinking??? :headscratch:

Did you guys hear that several of the banks that got bailout money turned around and invested billions overseas?

Not possible Scoob.

All markets have been loosing till three days ago.

Even today that all markets rallied, Japan was down.

And big banks just don't go around buying land or houses.

Nope it is true. One of them invested in China Building and others elsewhere, could be wrong because I saw it late last night but think it was Saudi. So they are taking my tax money durring difficult times and instead of investing in America they are sending it overseas.

They have branches there.

I know citi is investing in China along with another bank.

By investing there they'll be able to fetch profits later.

I know what you mean about them investing your tax money but in the long term it'll prove the best for American companies.

Bacause what's going on now is panic and speculation.

Rates are lower so most people should be able to pay their mortgages, but then they loose their jobs and fail payments.

Right now big banks like Bofa and Citi need to have money rolling all over the world.

The wrongest move any country or company could make right now would be extreme protectionism. That would send us all down the drain back to the thirties.

And in order to stimulate our economy, we need to invest hear.

Yes Scoob but in order to be able to sell what you produce there you need to have people in other countries have money to do so.

Is like China's government buying US treasury because they need Americans to buy their stuff.

Today the world is nothing but a small village and, like in any village, there are richer and poorer people.
