Investment or Daily driver?

Matts

Recommended Posts

Ok I've read the 'Garage Queen' and the 'Highest mile award' topics and it brought up a serious question.

Who drives their car like there's no tomorrow and who bought theirs for the investment?

I know times are tough right now with the economy in the drains, but how is the market holding up for the SGT?

How is the SGT compare to a GT as far as daily driving?

Either way enjoy it because I'm jealous. :shift:

You know, I just want to drive the thing and enjoy it. I paid for it, I modded it, it's only worth is what it's worth to me. My son (who is now 7) may some day get it and in that time period i'm hoping it will be a great father/son project for us to put her back to her former glory. Granted that will only be 11 years from now, but i'm looking forward to handing him over the keys someday. I'd hope to maybe drop a new motor in it, freshen up the interior maybe, that sort of stuff. But i'm not looking for it to roll across the auction block someday.. I'm hoping that it will just trade hands in the family...... Grandpa's bad @$$ Shebly!!!! :)

I bought my SGT becsuse it is a Shelby. I've was bitten by the snake back in the mid 60s but was unable to do anything about it until last year  . Better late than never. :happy feet:

I had a garage full ATVs and a 4x4 Chevy over the last 30 years until a few years ago when my financial situation forced me to sell them. I had this pathetic empty 3rd car bay in the garage. As I have stated before, I got my wife to agree to a kitchen remodel if I could buy a car to fill my garage. My Shelby was a case of being in the right place at the right time.

I know my SGT will be worth more than the Shelby clone I was planning on building, but at the time of purchase I was so overwhelmed that I could by a Shelby, the investment factor was the farthest thing from my mind. After all, I was buying a piece of the American automotive dream  I planned to use it as a week end driver and go to car shows and cruise nights. So far this is what I've been using it for. I have averaged less than 300 miles a month, even factoring in my 900 mile Vegas road trip :shift: last fall. My car is pretty much covered most of the winter here, 3-4 months. I think if I had built my clone I would have driven it more than I drive my SGT.

I figure I'll continue to drive my car as I have been. Last year I missed some of the cruises because of the weather so hopefully this season will be better. I consider it maybe 10% investment, 90% to be driven, 100% pure fun!

I bought my Shelby as part of a life long love affair (I am 54). Though it is not my daily driver, it is my "let's have some fun driver" . I don't know if it will be ever worth a lot while I am alive, so I figure I will have the fun of doing what Mr. Shelby created this car for.. I just hit 10,000 miles!

I do however get my exercise as I park it as far away from anyone else whenever I take her anywhere.

+1 I totally agree more except Im only 29. :D

I didnt buy this car as an investment nor was it ever meant to be. For those that did buy them as an investment I have some property for sale, yes its ocean front in the great state of Arizona not too far from SAI. I bought it because I have always loved the Shelbys and wasnt lucky enough to know anyone who owned one. I had seen a couple of them at shows but that was as close as I could get to one. I knew the car I wanted with what options and when my wife was in the dealer for a new explorer I asked wether they would be getting any. The would be getting the exact car with the exact options I wanted in 2 weeks and I couldnt wait. Worked out a deal before it even arrived. It is not a DD but I do drive it to/work sometimes and usually everyother weekend Im off. It is a fair weather car.

Yeah I just turn 21 not to long ago.

I would love to have a SGT for a daily driver or just to have one period.

I bought the Saleen for weekend drives and occasional road trips. After Steve left the company I quickly sold it because it just didn't make sense to me to keep a car that has his name on it and he quit.

I've always loved Shelby Mustangs and always will.

1. I drive the car, but not real often. It would be a suitable investment in my CCELA account. (Chip's Complete Equity Loss Account)

2. The market for the SGT is holding up spectacularly well compared to the stock market that our new Marxist Socialist President has driven into the ground. I won't be building any more Chevron stations, I won't be hiring any more workers, and I won't allow myself to be lashed to Obama's Socialist wagon so he can crack his whip across my back and demand that I pull it faster. So I might as well buy some fun cars and spend more time on my boat at the lake.

3. Compared to the Ford GT, the SGT is more practical, provides better visibility, and is a much better daily driver. Compared to the Mustang GT, the SGT is not as good a daily driver because the lowered suspension makes every parking block a potential disaster. Speed bumps often rake the bottom of my car. But glancing at the Shelby dash plaque on even the most mundane drives infuses the enthusiast with a sense of history that started in cover alls, and ended in victory lane at Le Mans. You can't put a price on that.

Cheers.

I bought mine as a driver originally. Then I bought a 09 Focus for a shop loaner and parked the SGT for the winter. Good thing too because winter in the Chicagoland area was brutal this year. Now she sits until spring arrives and she will be back in service again. I knew the value wouldnt go up when I bought it. I relized its a car and will take decades to get my money back if I get it back. Until that day Im going to drive, race, and research new detail products on her. Enjoy the ride because it is rare, fun, and a Shelby.

Mine is my toy, I will average about 4000 miles a year on her unless I move down south at some point. I am about to pour some money into her, I do not expect to get most of it back, but I am going to an approved Mod Shop so it is registered. I am not doing this because of the investment, I am doing so because I like to own things you do not see every day. I think it is the best looking Mustang built and after my Mods it will either keep up or exceed a GT500. All said and done it will be about the same price as a GT500 as well, maybe a little bit more. I have 0% financing though, find someone with a GT500 that can say that. After I am done it will be the only one like it, that means a lot to me. I will keep it as long as I can, usually things bore me and I switch. I am not sure that will happen this time. I truly feel I found what I was looking for in a toy, it took a bunch of tries though. I used to be a Porsche and BMW guy, might go back to them if I move down south, but that will be my daily driver.

I will tell you this, I bought mine about 15 months ago and it has held up better than any of my stocks or my 401k.

The answer is "neither" for me. Mine is not my daily driver, and I did not buy it as an investment. I hope that it will appreciate in value over the years, and I think it will, but there is no guarantee of course. I bought mine to drive and enjoy whenever I can, and I enjoy just looking at it also!!!

Even in the best of times this car was not going to be worth anything substantial in my lifetime. I keep it nice, don't drive in the winter, but I do drive it! 14K mi so far. My goal is to keep it and have some guy in 50 years angry with me for driving it so much! :shift:

I bought the car for me not for some jerky that's going to try to make $$$ off it and let it sit in some trailer...no if the value is going to go down then I want every pennies worth!

It's a toy for us. As the weather gets better I'm sure it will get driven more. Never even considered it an investment. In the next year or two we plan to get another one that will likely be my DD. This way the wife and I won't have to compete to see who gets to drive the Shelby.

Mine is neither a daily driver or an investment. It is the realization of a dream to own a Shelby and is my summertime toy. I drive it on weekends, to car shows/shelby get togethers, and evening cruises with my my kids. The only investment is in the time with my kids. It will someday be given to my 7 year old son and in the meantime, we plan on enjoying it together. :shift:
