Hardluck33
Started my rear end clean up yesterday...It was scary to see what was under my car when we put it on the trailer to send it to Tasca so I had to do something. The underside looked terrrible when I started. I used a sander, a drill with a sander head and a dremel to clean up. I did not finish all of the driveshaft, hopefully I can get that done in a week or so. I then shot all the parts with rust inhibitor and flat black. The pictures really do not do it justice...it looks 1,000 times better now. Still a little more work to do in the small areas but this is a start. http://s269.photobucket.com/albums/jj71/Ha...mview=slideshow

Hardluck33
Good job. Were the jacks under there for safety reasons? I actually used the jackstands I just lowered them in the picture. My jack stands were up all the way for me to be able to comfortably move around under the car. Oh, by the way wear a mask if you are going to do this...I did not--that was dumb

It does look a 1,000 times better, looks good.
69dejavue
Obviously the only way to do this is just what you did. Get under and starting brushing and sanding. I have been looking at products from Eastwood to paint over rust, encapsulate, and then spray a gloss black over. Need the time to do so. Yours is looking very good now. Best remedy for the driveshaft is probably an aluminum drive shaft. http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?itemType=CATEGORY&itemID=

I actually asked her about that mod and was told to wait until my buddy gets back from Afghanistan to help me so I won't have to pay labor charges. Would be nice if the web site automatically printed all the messages in this size.

These are the same products I used. The Metal Ready does a nice job of removing the surface rust. A couple of things I would have done differently is to lightly sand the primer coat with a very fine sandpaper prior to applying the top coat to smooth out the bubbles (wear a mask). Wear a long sleeve shirt to avoid getting that primer on your arms; it's hard to wash off. I did not like how the AG111 top coat went on - it was very thick and sticky, perhaps I didn't do a very good job mixing the two parts. I may have selected a different top coat product perhaps from Eastwood. However, I am satisfied with the results and my car's rear end is now inpervious to corrosion. I removed the axle weights and painted them with Rustoleum satin black after applying a coat of the silver primer.
