Here are some shots of an OEM SVT center cap as installed from the back of the rim, removed with the retainer ring in place, and with the retainer ring removed. In my opinion, attempting to remove these center caps while on the car will eventually result in damage to the cap(s), if you don't damage the very first one. I am sure it can be done, but a lot of guys will hurt their caps trying. Once off the car, the ring pops right out with a small screwdriver, and the cap comes out the face side of the wheel.
