Who caused all the turmoil?

Recommended Posts

Okay, I don't care to get into politics on this site as I don't have the energy for the subject any more. I used to be hard core but now I've lost interest. But, I did just start reading some of these political posts and I am enjoying the fun.

Anyway, I came across this story today while some coworkers were passing it around. I have no idea whether it is true or whether it's a hoax. After seeing some of these posts, I thought I'd upload it and see how fun the discussion gets. If someone cares to see whether it's a true story or not, have fun. I think if it's a hoax, it will backfire. If it's true, then well..., again I want to read all of your thoughts.

Enjoy and let the fun begin.

Edit, actually, I thought I'd do a quick search and actually found the story on the NYT website so I guess it's for real:

With a few exceptions I've usually kept my political opinions to myself and close friends...being in the military public expression of political views is discouraged...and with good reason...you want your military to be apolitical.

While I have strong opinions I've usually preferred to keep my politics to myself...but events of the last few months have so pissed me off that I feel I can no longer sit on the sidelines. Our country is going down the tubes and Congress is going on a spending spree...democrats and republicans. Absolute selfish irresponsbility.

The reason we are in this mess is because we (the lendees, lenders, the US gov) have gone into too much debt and now we owe more than our assets (houses, loans, etc) are worth. So Congress decides to ram through all their pet projects...yeah, like we can afford to pay for that right now.

I'm not going to debate the merits of a stimulus package, but this isn't a stimulus package...it's a spending spree at the worst time possible.

For the first time in my adult life, I've very concerned about the future of my country.

I hope that President Obama will live up to his repeated promises to stop earmarks, to change business as usual. Live up to your campaign promises and Veto this earmarked chocked, pork laden bill. Prove all your detractors wrong and keep your word.

Here's your big chance.

I too try to stay out of all the political threads, but this is most certainly one of the largest reasons that we are in the situation that we are in right now. It just drives me nuts when people blame all our troubles on the Bush administration. All I say is do the research of what Fannie and Freddie were doing in the late 90's and who was running those organizations at the time, and also during the time of the Bush administration. For that matter, look all the way back to the 70's of the dealings of these organizaitons and who was running them. This has been brewing for a very long time. Clinton then comes out a couple weeks ago and says you can't blame ANY of our current troubles on him or his administration. Crazy......

I certainly do not agree with all the things that Bush's administration did, but to blame all our woes on it, is just wrong. Here's to a turn around some day! :beerchug:

I really don't think it matters who is to blame at this point ! What we need is for the President to lead and lead by example and cut spending and start today holding accountable for poor decessions and put us on a BUDGET that will trim the debt.

I know we can go on and on but at some point you have to let failure fail and rebuild or just go away. There are plenty of smart business owners out there who are not in the hip pocket of our elected officials just waiting for the oppertunity to grow there business.I think it's the way it should be.

I feel the need to jump in...

Everyone seems to agree that we need accountability in our government. And I think most of can agree that congress has been the big turd in this soup we've been swimming in right now (both Republicans and Democrats). The problem is, IMO, is that you will never get any accountability as long as congress can set in their big offices for as long as they want. WE NEED TERM LIMITS. Get these lazy fatcats out of the government and get some new blood in. If congress had limited terms, at least in that last term they might actually do something that is good for the nation rather than pandering to special interests in order to ensure re-election.

you are right, but Im not holding my breath

that anyone will ever vote to have their own

career limited that way.

Can the President impose that on Congress?

Or would those clowns on Capital Hill have to

vote on that themselves?

We have term limits! DONT VOTE FOR THEM!!!!

Well, that's a whole other issue: the apathy of the average American voter. Just voting isn't enough. The American public needs to take the time and effort to actually learn something about the process and the people they are voting for so they can make educated decisions. Tossing out a vote for the incumbent because you are too lazy to do the research occurs WAY too much. That's why we are in the position we are in.

I agree with snake08

"I really don't think it matters who is to blame at this point ! " It is broke bad. Giving money to companies that have acres of stock that no one can afford is a bad move. cutting back on spending by the gov not good either. money needs to get to the people who will spend it. The government on both sides of the border should be spending big time, rebuild the infrastructure build homes for the poor what ever it takes to get the average Joe a job with disposable income. when the little guys get money to spend we will start to climb out of this mess. The US had over 600,000 jobs lost last month these folks need to get back to work and start spending. my government put froward a bill to spend 30 billion on infrastructure to get the economy going. the money will not get in to the economy for 18 month. in the same breath they stopped all collective barging and wrote there own wage settlement and cut back on spending. government departments are pros at spending and providing stimulus to the economy. as the saying goes "you have to spend money to make money" it is time to spend not prop up banks and companies that can't com peat. Just my rant

Blame both Repubs and Dems for past mistakes, theres enough on both sides. But like Hilary says "Never let a good crisis go to waste". This administation is taking full advantage of the fear and uncertainty in the country as a result of this "depression" (yes we are getting closer to actual depression statistics), to move forward the most radiacal socialization, weakening of if individual rights and increase of goverment control in this countries history.

Maybe what they they really want is to repeal the US Constitution.

The american dream and our way of life for the last 200 years is just about dead :rip: . I wonder when those people in the so called center who might have cared will actually figure it out. Clearly people on the left don't give a darn as long as they personally gain something in the process.

And all the so called press continues to do is;

Blame: bussines, bankers, corporate CEO's, wall street, Republican administations, Replublican Senators and Cgngressman, and conservatives in general.

Don't blame: Any democratic administation, Senetor or Congressman, Labor Unions, or powerfull liberal organizations like Acorn or Move-On.

Basically this would make it illegal to own a firearm - any rifle with a clip

or ANY pistol unless:

*It is registered.

*You are fingerprinted.

*You supply a current Driver's License.

*You supply your Social Security #.

*You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any

time of their choosing.

*Each update - change or ownership through private or

public sale must be reported and costs $25 - Failure to

do so you automatically lose the right to own a firearm

and are subject up to a year in jail.

*There is a child provision clause on page 16 section 305

stating a child-access provision. Gun must be locked

and inaccessible to any child under 18.

They would have the right to come and inspect that you are storing your gun

safely away from accessibility to children and fine is punishable for up to 5

yrs. in prison.

So soon we will live in the USSA, no individual rights, no opertunity to improve your condition beyond what the goverment want's, waiting lines for inferior healthcare, more failed schools, no incentive to work and acheive, we will just be a melting pot of Lemmings. Way to go Obama, Pelosi, Reed and the other extreem lefties, tear down in a few months what took 200Years and the sweat and sacrifice of millions of our predecessors to create.:cry:

Ok I'm done venting.

Bravo! :salute:

Call me crazy, but imo the 2nd amendment is my gun permit. All the firearm registration legislation that has been passed in the last 40 years is a direct violation of the constitution. They have been turning our Constitutional rights into privileges, and privileges can be taken away. They have been slowly whittling away at the 2nd amendment and the Constitution as a whole, until it will be good for nothing except to wipe your a$$ with. Pretty much is now.

That's my story and i'm sticking to it....

The "average American voter" sits around watching Dancing with the Stars and American Idol for years. They are told in their newspapers and on the network news how bad things are and that change is needed in this next election. They decide to do some "research". So they start watching the nightly news and really going over the editorial pages in their local paper that they've been a suscriber of for years. What do they see/read?

This is the man that can fix all the problems. It must be right or Tom Brokaw and PBS said so.

A coufew months ago, unemployment was at +/_ 5% and things were going downward. The campaign made Americans feel that the economy was the #1 issue at stake instead of the war, and Obama kept using words like catastrophe. And now, here we are...

Done for now.

Yep, all he had to do is veto the bill. But, he is still to busy blaming Bush. Last I saw he was the President or is it Pelosi?
