kahmann
I purchased a Moroso high capacity aluminum oil pan for my SGT. It arrived today, along with the new Fel-Pro gasket. Here are some pics I just took of it out of the box. You'll notice that there are three plugs total. One is a normal drain plug. The other two allow for future provisions, such as turbo oil line tap. In the last pic, you can see the baffles, which are an extra cool feature of the high-cap pan. Has anyone swapped an oil pan on an S197? Any tips or tricks you can lend? Is it necessary to hoist the engine for clearance? No instructions were provided, other than 'to consult a Ford service manual'. Ken
rnoggle
I think you will have to hoist the engine. Here is a link with instructions for servicing the oil pan and gasket. http://bradbarnett.net/service_man/Powertr...AIR/Oil_Pan.pdf
GR40Freak
Just FYI you can re-use the stock oil pan gasket. Just be care to use a bolt to support the rear of the gasket after you take the pan off.

This might be helpfull ..will take a bit to poke around and doesn't seem to tell you how to get access: S197 service manuals but usefull in general. ...and this specific link (part of above set) page-B34 for oil-pan reassembly, sealing and torquing info might be usefull. This is perfect, thanks Dan! I'm seriously considering having someone else do this for me. I'm not too sure about lifting the ol' 4.6. I talked to a shop today that said the K member needs to be removed and that's it? Ken
kahmann
Well I finally got the oil pan installed. The K member did have to come out, as did the steering rack. I know it's dirty under there, but you get the idea. Ken

kahmann
pop quiz! whats the torque on the oil pan bolts? First install all bolts hand tight, then run all bolts down to 2 Nm (18 lb-in). Then make another pass at 20 Nm (15 lb-ft) and finally tighten an additional 60 degrees at each bolt for the final stage. Hope that helps. 69dejavue
Just out of curiosity, what oil do you use and did you see any sludge, varnish, gum, etc? Are you satisfied with the cleanliness and protection of your oil? Few of us have seen the internals as you have.
kahmann
I use Redline synthetic in my Shelby and my 66 Mustang. There wasn't any sludge or residue at all. It looked beautiful in there. I've got 17k miles on my SGT FYI. Ken EDIT: I literally wiped my stock oil pan with a paper shop towel and it looks brand new. There will be closer examination of all your upgrades. :hysterical:

I'm also looking forward to getting to meet you and your GT/SC in Battle Ground! I actually saw your car (and posted pics of it) at the car show in Lacey last year. You probably don't remember, but I didn't have my SGT yet and yours was the one that got me looking for one! Ken

Well I don't see a whole lot of it obviously, but I think it looks great from underneath. I'm hoping that this thing will help keep my engine lubricated around the wild corners at the track. Nice dude thats a sweet install Thanks man!
