can someone with it installed give us a full review of how it works?

I sometimes upshifted my auto manually, as I loved the difference in performance and sound when letting the engine rev higher than the stock auto will go. But downshifting has always been a pain, with there being well over 2 seconds of delay before engaging a lower gear, like when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd.

Update: Installed it 3 weeks ago and works fine. Excellent quality and it is a highly reccomended mod!

Looks sharp are you going to do any tranny work ?? If my right knee needs to be replaced, I might have to switc to automatic

I finally got around to installing the TCI ratchet shifter, it is a mod to get if you have a automatic, It rips thur the gears and I can downshift

without any problems, just have to be careful when going up into 2nd, it wants to go sideways, no need for pictures as it looks like the others, Rick

I seem to ba able to downshift my automatic without any particular delay, although you may be talking about a different kind of shifting or driving than I am used to, or contemplating.

This is a thread from The Nostalgia Forum, wherein someone quotes Denis Jenkinson about highway driving with/by Grand Prix champions: Grand Prix Drivers on the Open Road

Looks like anticipation is the key there, and probably in the effective use of downshifting in an automatic transmission car.

I'd like to hear what "ratchet-shift" means, practically speaking.

Way I understand it, with the transmission in "Low", you push, the transmission shifts, the lever returns to the original position. Another push the same direction, another shift, another return. Same as long as you have gears to shift up to (what about overdrive? The TCI item accommodate that?).

As long as there is a lower gear to shift to, a pull on the lever downshifts, the lever returns to its normal position.

Do I have it right?

Frank,

I had the B&M Mega Shifter on my 72 mach 1, I cannot speak for the new shifter from TCI, but you kinda have the idea..

I would come to a light and rachet the tranny down into 1st, that is rocking it back three times each time the tranny drops a gear. Then when I shoot out of the hole I would just "Pull" the shifter back, not forward and this would progress the shift up to second, repeat for third.. I think the idea was it is easier to pull then push when accelerating.. I think the new TCI though has you rocking the shifter forward to progress through the gears unlike B&M.. Either way, its is nice beacause if your really in the moment and forget which gear your in and try to go up again, you will not go into neutral!

BTW, O/D will be on if you leave it on and off if its switched off. Personally, I see a difference with it on, that is it seems to shift,,,"oddly" with it on.. go figure?

I do wish TCI would make the shifter with a line lock switch built into the "Tee" handle. I know they moved the O/D switch down off the handle to the cover but it would be nice to have the ability to locate the LL switch on the handle vice anywhere on the dash.
