jaydub Mach1
At this time in his presidency, George Bush had a higher approval rating than Obama. Using the same source, Gallup, for this week, Obama has a 59% job approval rating. Exactly eight years ago, Bush had a 62% job approval rating. "How can this be?" you ask? "Hasn't the Obama-loving media gushed and swooned told us about this?" you ask? Ah......no, they haven't. Why would they? Only good "news" about Dear leader is reported by our "news" media. http://www.gallup.com/poll/116077/Obama-Jo...First-Time.aspx http://www.pollingreport.com/BushJob1.htm (Gallup is towards the end)
AstroDan
Yes. I don't put that much value in stats. I find it kinda interesting though, that Bush's numbers were trending up and Obama's are trending down. Time will tell.
rpretzel
Yes.I don't put that much value in stats. I find it kinda interesting though, that Bush's numbers were trending up and Obama's are trending down. Time will tell. Quite right. You can use statistics to prove anything. 63.8% of all Americans know that.
JeffIsHereToo
You're using two different polls to prove something. Let's use the same poll (See stats that show pretty much dead even: http://www.gallup.com/poll/1723/Presidenti...al-Depth.aspx#3 http://www.gallup.com/poll/4570/Slim-Major...erformance.aspx In 2001, Averaging Bush's approval ratings by month, he garnered a 59% approval score for February, enjoyed similar ratings in March (58%). Or this from Gallup two days ago: President Barack Obama remains highly popular among the U.S. public at the end of his first month in office. However, the 63% of Americans currently approving of his job performance is down slightly from his initial 68% rating in January. The percentage disapproving has doubled, from 12% to 24%. According to weekly aggregates of Gallup Poll Daily tracking interviews, Obama has lost no support from Democrats and independents since taking office, but his approval rating from Republicans has dropped steadily week by week, from 41% at the start of his term to just 30% today. http://www.gallup.com/poll/116026/Assessin...Month-Mark.aspx But I guess given President Bush's 22% rating at the end...I suspect that's a more important measure especially given Jimmy Carter had the highest approval of all! On other words this means NOTHING!

mywickedshelby
Bush's approval rating really has nothing to do with this. No one wanted him back. And Obama's approval rating now is really meaningless. He won the election in bad times, his approval rating is based on hope for something positive to happen. Remember, Bush was President was some time before 9/11, and his approval rating was very high after that, very high. Where will Obama's be after a year or two? or perhaps the more important question..... how will he perform when something unexpected or castastrophic occurs, when there isnt 2 weeks to have a speech written for you, when he have to make decisions on the fly, in the heat of battle..... then and only then we will know if he is really a man of substance or if all this hope turns out to be a waste of time. Stay tuned.
