SHELBY GT EXHAUST

Recommended Posts

HEY GUYS,

IS THE STOCK CAT-BACK SYSTEM 2 1/2 INCHES OR IS IT A 3 INCH ?

I WANT TO DO THE 3 INCH MAGNIFLOW SYSTEM FROM THE CAT-BACK.

BUMP FOR SOME TECH INFO. HOW WIDE IS THE STOCK CAT-BACK EXHAUST ON

THE SHELBY GT.

In my opinion, the midpipes are not the first (or 2nd, or 3rd, or 10th) place to look to modify an SGT.

One of the upgrades from SAI is the x-pipe cat back exhaust.

The only reason I would contemplate modifying or replacing the Shelby x-pipe is if I were to install long tube headers, in which case it would be completely necessary.

To address your question, the stock pipe is 2 1/2" in diameter.

EDIT: You realize that typing in all CAPS is considered yelling, right? It's really irritating to read all capitalized text FYI.

I did the Borla "Aggressive" cat-back system and it sounds AWESOME!!! Best system I've heard to date on a N/A 4.6 3v.

Well, if I was starting with the stock GT exhaust, I'd definitely consider that also.

But since we've already got the x-pipe, you can get nearly the same sound just by swapping the axle backs.

Just my .02. Good luck.

IMO, the only reason you should need to change the mid pipe is for one of the following reasons: long tubes, removal of cats, or H instead of X. The stock SGT X flows well (as well as it will with cats). Otherwise, the only reason you would need to swap axlebacks would just be for diff noise.

If you really wanna wake up the neighbors just remove the cats, it will be louder than the KR exhaust. the only increase in flow will be headers and no cats.

There are a lot of people that own the Mustang GT that are going to the Off-Road X or H Pipes. . . . the Shelby GT already has the Off-Road X-pipe!!

Being out at the track at CS86 in Vegas, I found that the "STOCK" Shelby GT exhaust was actually sorta quiet. But not his!! That Bassani sounds great!! I know that sounds sorta wierd that the factory installed Shelby GT would be quiet, it is louder than the stock Mustang GT exhaust. . . . but at the track - way too quite.

Chris went with the Bassani Axle-back exhaust and they sound GREAT out at the track. I'm going to swap out my stock Shelby GT exhaust with a custom tuned/made MAC Performance axle back. The ones I'm looking into getting are designed to eliminate the interior drone/resonation that they often are found to have. I chose the MAC Performance for the fact that it has THE SOUND that I want!!! Real throaty and, actually, kinda unique in comparison to the others out there on the market.

I've actually heard the JBA Axle back in person and it sounds really good too - that true "DNA" sound of a Mustang. Not too loud in the cabin and just right on the outside. These were recommended to me by Quantum Performance also.

I guess - the gist of this note is that when it comes to the Shelby GT - the only reason to really mess with the exhaust is to remove the Cats, add long-tube headers, or simply change out the Axle back for a different exhaust note. These choice are all yours to make, that's what makes this whole thing so damn fun!!
