rnoggle
Ok, I know I can find this on the web, but not sure how accurate it will be. Looking for the 1/4 mile time for a stock SGT, with a beginner driver. I'm planning to hit the track for my first time at the Shelbyfest in April The rules say helmets are required for anything faster than 14 seconds. So, do I need to go buy a helmet or not? rnoggle
yeah, I was kinda thinking I should get one regardless. Where would be a good place to get one. Is there a difference between what I would need on the track and a motorcycle helmet. Never been on a track in my life, so this is all going to be new to me. kahmann
i always thought that vista blue was the fastest color!! +1 on the VB Definitely use a helmet on the track no matter what the rules are. I bought my Simpson helmet through Summit Racing and my wife's Simpson helmet from Simpson directly. I believe the Outlaw model is still made in the USA, if that matters to you (which it SHOULD!).. blueshawk
Well, mines Black, so it IS the fastest color. And I do have the Team Shelby decal, so that should add a couple tenths, right My BLACK SGT is faster than the last muscle car I had 35 years ago which was a '70 Chevelle SS396, 4 speed. I wish I still had it but the SGT would "smoke" it in any kind of race.
NordicShelby
The only time I ran it on a Track (sort of a track) was in Terlingua on the bumpy airport runway. I ran 15.15 which is not very fast. My car is bone stock and the runway was by no means a professional dragstrip.

I wish I still had it but the SGT would "smoke" it in any kind of race. We sold our 71 built sm block one 7 years ago. SGT has less HP but feels faster...It was black and my SGT is white probably explains everything... Wifes favorite car is Chevelles, about 50/50 with a Mach 1 for her. To explain the speed thing: You see white is pigmented with Titanium Oxide which is lightweight. Black is pigmented with Iron Oxide which is heavy. You will all notice that the old 350R's were white and the new racing Mustangs are white as well...HHmmmmnnnn....even Sam Stranos car is white, coincidence? The 71 I built and painted myself. Changed the engine out on the street, with a rented cherry picker, no garage at the time and I painted it in a one car garage after we rented a house with a garage. It was Black Laquer. Guys.....gals....please dont continue to rehash this tired old debate,. do a search of previous posts and read the news.... the fastest color is and will always be..... the color of the car Im driving at any particular time. gbstang
Ok, To settle the debate... The fastest color is Vista Blue,,,how do I know you ask?? Well, I am bald, wasn't that way until I hit the gas for the first time in my shelby!! Ok, reality, the real deal is,, Color is an outside appearance.. Simliar to the US Flag being Red White and Blue. The Flag of our great country although is known through out the free world is also a symbol of things that cannot be put to words... People have tried to describe America, what it stands for but it goes deeper than any words.. Just like your Shelby is a certain color, to me a Shelby may be any color, but it really goes alot deeper, past the color.. I see the same thing when I see pictures of Carrol, Mr. Shinoda, Knudsen etc etc.. its goes deeper than the meer appearance.. I guess that is why everyone gathers when they hear the word Shelby or Boss... Ok,, now we know that Vista Blue is the fastest, it is the color of my Shelby.. Your white Shelby is also the fastest, the black one has heavier paint though All Shelby's no matter the color are the fastest, most revered and instill fear when opposed! Try these guys for a great helmet deal: http://www.extremesupply.com/ I just bought mine from there. You need at least Snell 2000 (SA2000 or M2000). You will also find some deals on Ebay. Good luck, stay safe and God bless.

rnoggle
You need at least Snell 2000 (SA2000 or M2000). So, is the M2000 equivalent to the SA2000? I thought the M classification was not as stringent as the SA, and was not acceptable for most Auto racing. I have a brand new M2000 helmet in the garage. Never been used. Hate to go spend a couple hundred $$$, and then find out I already had an acceptable helmet.
mywickedshelby
NO, the M is for a motorcycle and will not be accepted to race your car. (or so I have been told) And dont get an SA2000. The helmuts are only certified for 10 years, so if you get an SA2000, you will need a new one next year. Get a SA2005, THEN YOU ARE GOOD TO GO TILL 2015.
