I finally had a weekend that it wasn't raining, snowing or I wasn't working. Wife and I took the GT500 out for a cruise on Route 66. A nice leisurly cruise looking at some of the surviving wierdness along the Mother Road. Anybody else cruise the route? Had some tourists snapping some shots of the car as we took a break, it was a nice trip :shift:

can you define "pretty rough" for me, my wife and I along with some friends are planning our holiday this year to

be a journey along the complete route

I have numerous books and maps, but it would be nice to have some first hand experience

we are still debating wether we take the '65 or the '09

leaning toward the '65 for the nostalgic factor

thanks

Only that the road hasn't been resurfaced for decades in the areas where there are not a lot of houses. The road crews go out and patch the potholes or seal the cracks so it's a bit bumpy for a while. I had a 49 Chevy prostreet truck with a four link that I drove on it from Victorville east to Roys and didn't have any problems other than it just being bumpy. Either of your cars can make it easily. just take your time and keep your eyes open for the unusual sites.

Have fun

Route 66, Seligman, Snowcap. You won't be disappointed. It's been there since the mountains were little kids.

We always stop there on the way back from the Grand Canyon to Flag. They have the best burgers and fries and it's so much fun.

From another site:

Stop for lunch at the Snow Cap. It is run by Juan Delgadillio, a genuine character. He will offer you his business card ("My Card"), used napkins and straws, and "dead chicken". It's all part of his zany act. The food is good by the way. It is so good, we stopped by a few years later in our new Z06 Corvette.

Juan's brother Angel Delgadillio is the town barber and president of the local Route 66 association. His barbershop stocks some neat Route 66 paraphenalia. You can chat with him and learn some fascinating details about the old road. He will tell you, for example, that during the period when traffic on the road was at its peak, the cars were literally bumper to bumper on Main Street and it sometimes took 10 minutes to cross the street.
