69dejavue
We ran a surplus budget only because of the Republican controlled House and the Gingrich Contract with America. Klinton had little to do with it. In case you did not know the economy is cyclical. And in case you did not know the market crashed under Klinton in 2000. The Nasdaq went from over 5,000 to less than 3,000. The Dow dropped precipitiously. Don't you remember those figures? Amazing how liberals only want to remember the bad economic times of Republicans. Jimbroski_00
THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE :happy feet: When Clinton left office we had a $10 trilllion dollar surplus. If I recall correctly, I believe the big delima then was whether to spend the surplus to bailout social security or to spend it revamping Medi-Care programs... Remember... $1 trillion is a million, million dollars!!! Where did all that money go? Taking it one step further... we never had a successful Terrorist Attack during the Clinton years because they took the threat serious. Despite warnings by U.S. Intelligence agencies and outgoing Cyber Czar Richard Clarke that the threat of attack was eminent, the new administration dismissed it as paranoia. It wasn't until after 9/11 that the Bush cabinet woke and smelled the coffee. IMHO... they let it happen by dropping their guard. R/ J

As far as your other claims, from the outside looking, things may appear that way to you... But that's is not what happened... it's more to it than that!!! R/ J Dude - I'm as liberal as they come, but we need to get the numbers straight. The surplus Clinton gave Bush was in the annual budget - not the deficit itself. Clinton gave Bush roughly a $3 trillion annual budget with a $400 billion surplus. The deficit was still $4.5 trillion, but with the surplus, we at least were chipping away at it. Bush then turned the $4.5 trillion deficit into a $9 trillion deficit through the war, other out of control discretionary spending, and tax cuts. Obama will now be forced for the foreseeable future to run even further deficit spending to get us out of this mess - increasing the national debt to - already - $11 trillion. We won't have the luxury of kicking this can down the road anymore. We will need to return to real fiscal conservatism - not what it was under Reagan or Bush. And for both the left and the right - we will all need to come to terms with getting social security, Medicare/Medicaid and other entitlements under control. Our own study of the post-World War II presidencies confirms their results. We found that the S&P 500 has averaged a total return of 14.1% per year under Democratic presidents since April 1945, and 11.8% under Republicans. The best total returns--17.4% per year--were under Bill Clinton, whose presidency ranked first in economic results. http://www.forbes.com/2004/07/21/cx_da_072...ents_print.html

The market has consistently done better under a Democratic administration. And the most fiscally conservative administration of late was Clinton. That's the ultimate irony - fiscal conservatism is now a Democratic trait.

No.......Your "Facts" are delusional opinians Mr. Top "FORUM JERK"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is a great example of 'Leftist/Socialist"' views. Even Historical Facts are not valid, or a legitimate response to their propaganda. Their agenda to have Government take care of them, is central to their re-call of Facts and history. Obama, just passed, his 750 Billion Dollar Stimulus package, with only 3 Republican votes. How did he do that? Obviously the Political Party that controls Congress (Democrats now control both the Senate and the House of Representatives ), can, enact/pass or reject/vote down, the agenda's put forth by the President and his party. Unfortunately, the Democrat/Socialist/Marxist Party of America is, for at least the next 2 years in control of our Great Country and all of our collective destiny's. We can do little to stop the ruin that the Marxist/Socialists will bring with this Stimulus package. However we, true American Patriots, do not have to participate. Let the Left own it's ruin. Only 3 Republicans, joined the enemy's of our Democratic Republic. In 2 years we will have a chance to regain Congress. In the mean time, it is the True Americans, that will work and provide for their families, and NOT wait for Obama, to take care of them. May God continue to Bless us , and especially the brave Soldiers that defend our Great Country.
