Rear suspension squeak, gear shift rattle

Recommended Posts

I have an '08 GT convertible 5 speed with about 3000 miles on the clock. Love the car, but it has developed a couple of annoying noises:

Squeaky rear suspension when going over bumps, speed bumps, etc.

Gear shift rattles when winding out to 3500 - 4000 rpm (stops if I keep my hand on the gear shift knob).

I don't imagine these are serious problems, but would like to eliminate them, if possible.

Any remedies for these annoyances?

Thanks!

Check the exhaust rattling on the rear end...about 9 mos ago there was all kinds of postings about this issue. Something about you could cut away a piece of exhaust hangar that was not being used...can't remember it all though.

Also there were postings about the base of the Hurst needing to be tightened. My car does it at 1500-2000 RPM, if I squeeze the base of it, it goes away. I think there was a nut that had to be tightened.

Thanks all for the info! I should have searched the GT tech forum first...

I see here that a lot of creaking is "normal" -- caused by the performance poly bushings. My GT is going in for an oil change next week so I'll have them check the sway bar lube and for any scraping from the exhaust hanger(s), also will have them check for any rattling nuts on the shifter.

Being a performance car, as long as I know a certain amount of creaking is a normal part of the experience, I'm fine with it. It's kind of like the usual dry clutch noise on Ducati motorcycles, a lot of Ducatistas actually try to increase the clutch rattle noise by fitting them with open clutch covers!
